LandCruiser Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Hoyo De Monterrey Du Gourmet Production Date: Aug 2013 Pre light, excellent construction. Wrapper has some veins but a nice texture, clearly a well made cigar. Pre light draw a bit stiff, but thats to be expected in a vitola like this. It had me worried, but proved to be just what was needed for a nice slow smoke once lit. First third, vanilla, creme, cocoa, smooth as butter. Draw still a bit tight but not an issue. Delicious cool smoke. Well below medium to start. Bit of pepper and spice on the retrohale but, smooth as silk. End of first third sweet notes become more subtle, cappuccino flavor, roasted, cream, still smooth and bit of honey. Burn has been absolutely flawless, razor sharp all the way. Second Third: It begins to get a bit stronger, bit woody, some tobacco, tasting more like a typical Hoyo. Some vanilla coming through on the finish. Getting a bit stronger, but still a very mild medium. Sweetness and cream it still there. Moving into the final third, sweetness has subsided a bit. Moving into a bit more medium range now, but still mild. Loads of smoke for a cigar in this vitola. Smoke output in the first ⅔ was fairly light, but still pleasant. More tobacco flavors with some stronger coffee coming in, still a bit of creme. Some bread coming through also. Getting down to the band, maintaining the same flavor profile, just a bit stronger. Wrapping this one up just past the band, smoke is getting a bit warm and I am not a guy that tends to nub his cigars. Prefer a nice cool smoke, but took this one down as far as any. Never got past a mild medium, smoke was nice and cool and never burnt my nose or eyes. Just a great experience. FINAL THOUGHTS: This is not a cigar you can rush through, and you wont want to. Final smoking time was about 1hr 20min, and I milked every second of it. You need to pay attention to this one, as smoking it too fast will do away with the amazing cream and sweetness. Overall, what a cigar. Would go great with a lazy morning after breakfast and a coffee. Outstanding in every facet and one of the more relaxing and enjoyable cigars I can ever remember smoking. I cannot say enough how enjoyable this was. If you can find one and take some time for yourself, smoke it. Score: 93 HOYO HOYO 2 HOYO 3 1 1
