Beautiful sticks, Piggy. I somehow love this mottled, luscious and savoury look. Have a dressbox of BCE that look the same.

He can have his wedding band resized at a jeweler for a nominal fee. Wearing it on your thumb is a bit bizarre.

Bizarre?  Not quite, imo, but thanks for your input.  Can't speak for my bro-in-law, a Yankee from CT, but people do lose and gain weight.  A ring cut down can't be once again increased significantly in size, so maybe he's thinking along those lines.

... first my friend, just so you know, i was having a little fun at the expense of your friend. I did not really mean to be offensive about it. As a guy at 240, I understand the issue with weight, been there most of my life. Just so you know, it was about a little friendly fun with me.

I was kinda' hoping that eventually the conversation (between you two) might go something like this.

What did your 'experts' say about the cigar? Well, we all debated and fussed over it and concluded that we don't know squat!!! They had a helluva time however talking about your thumb ring!!! -LOL

I was hoping one and all could get a laugh, including your mate.

So for the sake of fun, you can have a laugh at me and my wedding ring. I don't wear one.  Lady Piggy of course wanted me to have one, so I went into the shop and made myself one out of stainless steel bar stock...!  At least your friend had the class and could get his 300lb ass (read with jest please, one fat dude to another) to a jewelry store!!! Me, well my heart went into making mine myself, but the money went to cigars, I am sure...

Cheers mate! -Ray

I seem to recall that many years ago I had a much greater range of mottled cigars. I rather like the 'camouflage' cigar myself. I had some great Upmanns, the Conny 1's that used to be a favorite of mine some years ago and I had a hoard of them that had this finish. I found it rather common on Churchills as well.

I have been told that some 'believe' that this is internal oils making their way to the wrapper. Could be I guess, I never really gave it much thought beyond the ocular appearance. I cannot say that I have noticed much of that today. For me, it appears mostly on sticks from the 90's, but many of them have always been that way and not acquired the 'patina' with age. It therefore does not really credit the migration of oils theory, but who's to who's right about a theory?

Thanks for the comment. -Ray

I really had no problem with your comment, Piggy.  I just thought the "bizarre" comment by the other poster was a little unnecessary.  Reminded me of the CA forum, you know?

I always appreciate your input, my friend, even your incessant ramblings about rH!  (just kidding.  I've learned so much from your posts...keep them coming!)

I'm sorry your feathers were ruffled by my comment, as I meant no offense. After all, I am a "Yankee" originally from upstate NY now residing in the "South" (Virginia). I guess my identity crisis got the best of me. My apologies.

No problem. Thanks for your kind response.  Glad you finally made it to the South.  My bro-in-law, the thumb ring guy, now lives in Raleigh.  Cheers.

Yes, not seen so much any longer. Agree, I also don't think it is an aging/'oil migration' thing - however, as usual, dispensing with any proof for it... :P

Ray, I still come across "mottled" new cigars. I love those cigars.

Upmann Number 2's and Vegas Robaina Unicos are two that have it regularly.  I don't believe it is a result of oils "migrating" from the wrapper to to the binder/filler as there has not been any time. These are fresh boxes.

As stated, I really like them as well. I don't know if I can rationalize a link to taste and the appearance, but I must admit that I have always associated the look with a quality smoking experience. Coincidence or reality, I don't know but I pick them out when I see them. Of course mate, you see way more new cigars than I do and it is good to hear that they are still here to be found. I have not seen a new one in a long time now.

I don't buy into the 'migration of oils' theory, either, but since I have never seen it posted here I thought I would toss it out and see if anyone else was supporting this theory. There is certainly no shortage cigar theories, that is for certain... -R
