Wineador for temp control only - TE or Compressor?

I am thinking of buying a wine cooler and using it for temperature control only. My cigars will be kept in air tight tupperware and boveda humidity ziplock bags, with boveda packs inside for humidity control, and will be placed inside the wine cooler for temp control only.

My questions are:

  1. is a compressor wine cooler better in this particular situation, than a thermo electric one? does it make a difference?
  2. does one consume electricity more than the other?
  3. what do you think are the advantages and possible pitfalls of each?

Many thanks,

Jack

Compressor. You can get fridges in much bigger sizes for compressor units, thermos are usually smaller units. With compressors, you can bring the temperatures lower.

Electricity bill, does it really matter? One good Cuban stick costs more than a month's electricity bill anyway. To answer your question, compressor probably.

Check the unit specs, wattage and power usage. Calculate that based on your country's electricity unit pricing. It can be done.

If you're isolating your sticks in containers, go for compressor. I used both and find thermo's very volatile wrt the humidity control. I use a compressor fridge now but it is a specialised cigar fridge (no modifications needed).
