I found a cigar beetle hole in one of my customs I brought back, had been in my humidor for 6 months and never froze it. I ended up throwing my three other custom rolls away. I double zip locked my other cigars and they are now in the fridge. Tomorrow morning I will move them to the freezer for 3 days.

Good times, glad I caught it before my nice cigars grew some holes.

I wouldn't have thrown the others away.  I would have bagged them separately and frozen them too.

They were full of beetle poop too

Begs the question: how are those custom rolls you can get on Duval St anyway? Are they worth trying?

Unfortunately never got to try one, was going to age them a couple years, and have it be a memory of my trip.

So what if it had a hole freeze the other custom rolls and smoke the cigar with the hole. The beetle is obviously gone lol. Seriously your over reacted by tossing them.

I would plan to bring my own when visiting the Keys. But sampling the local tobac is touristy and fun I suppose.

Some are kinda worth smoking while strolling down Duval. Majority are all from the same shop, they have stands everywhere. But there is a guy that rolls all his own blends and violas. He's located across from the Hard Rock next to some art stands. Not a store, pop up style kiosk. The rest are all yard gars in my opinion.

If you are driving down to the keys the best place to stop is in Key Largo @ the Island Cigar Shop. They have a line of custom Maduros that are fantastic called the El Original. Nice selection of other NC's at regular not tourist prices.

Eswarys right. Bring your own. I've bought fresh rolled on Duval and at Schooner Wharf Bar prior to rekindling my love affair with Cubans. Just a tourist trap. Wouldn't have thrown them out but also wouldn't waste humi space or time aging them. Simply good for a drunken stroll if you're unprepared.

The beauty of tobacco and Key West unfortunately lies in the past. Before Tampa became the behemoth it is today, Key West was the place where a large majority of tobacco was rolled in south Florida. A fire destroyed the area of town where all the factories were located. Which is now a municipal building in Old Town Key West. A few new factories popped up after the fire, but the stronghold was lost. companies moved to Tampa and Miami in order to keep producing without the down time it would take Key West to rebuild. History tidbit..I used to live there for 5 yrs while rebuilding a golf course on the island post Hurricane Wilma.
