helix Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Any experts out there? Weigh in please. We have all noticed in 2 weeks with this unit cleaner fresher air in our living room. Thinking about a larger purifier what would be recommended. This is my first air Purifier. It has fairly good reviews . $150 cdn to the door. http://www.achooallergy.com/germ-guardian-ac5000-uv-tower-air-purifier/
ElPuro Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Google is your friend. "Air purifier and cigar"
helix Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Nothing better than first hand info after doing the online research however.
ElPuro Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 There was a similar thread a week or two ago.
cybermadhatter Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 $102 at Amazon. I have the upgraded model and it works well but maybe 250 sq ft worth. The high (5) level is good, the rest are too low. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OLBR084/ref=pd_aw_sim_121_of_12?ie=UTF8&dpID=31i8LF4pk3L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR100%2C100_&refRID=1PSVT4H4FQYRA3ZJQYZ9
helix Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 Pretty cool system seems to be effective at knocking down odours... " Photo Catalytic Oxidation PCO Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). The combined action of the UVC light and the TiO2 decomposes organic materials into basic molecules such as H2O and CO2 and reduces odors and VOC’s as a result." NO Ozone produced. Been tinkering with it , there was space so added air pre-filter material over the carbon filter, output seemed unaffected. Hepa will last/flow a long time if not restricted by larger particles . Getting bulk Carbon filter material to cut (cost) to size and change it as needed , probably every 2 months. Good value Unit for small rooms 200-250sq ft . Me Thinks.
Smoker Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 The Venitian provided this to me at no charge. Is that the hotel in Vegas, or some backstreet vendor with an Italian accent and a fez?
Orion21 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Haha, the Hotel. However, I have some feedback about this unit. It worked at probably 70% effectiveness. It definitely helped keep the smell down, but did not eliminate it from the room. I smoked about 6 cigars in the room over a three day period and even after keeping this unit running on high for several hours while out (which would have meant 15+ full air exchanges through the system) the room smelt of stale smoke. Compared to the last time I was there it made a big difference, but this didn't remove odors from the room. Also, the design is poor. It pulls the air from the bottom of the unit and expels it through a HEPA filter and to activated carbon filters. If it were designed properly it would pull from the top. When I was smoking the unit would blow my smoke in all directs because of how it was designed. I found myself bending over to blow my smoke at the bottom of the unit so it would grab the smoke right away. If properly designed it might have worked better. 2
Smoker Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I need to start looking for a purifier too. But I wonder if any purifier will ever totally remove the lingering odour from a room. I think cleaning the air is the easy part - trouble is, it gets stuck in the curtains, carpet, and other furnishings. It's probably not possible for any purifier to remove those odours.
