jwr0201 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Talking about cigars that have lived in the local B&M for a while and that have become bleached in color from constant exposure to flourescent lights in the display case. The cigar shop I work at has a few boxes of rather nice cigars that have not moved and the wrappers have become much lighter from light exposure. These are boxes of NC's - LADC Mi Amors and Reservas. Normally great cigars. How does this bleaching of the wrappers affect the taste of a cigar?
Anthonyjoseph89 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I dunno, you'd be able to tell if you have some decent cigars bleached. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
Fugu Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Expect that bleaching would not just affect colour.... Already displaying boxes open (as is being done quite frequently in shops) is not the best idea, at least when turnover is low, even without any visible bleaching occurring. I am happy to have a local shop that doesn't display any cigar open in its humidors.
irratebass Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I've never heard of a cigar bleaching due to florescent lights. I've smoked many cigars that are open on display....only issue I have ever had was it was too wet due to the humidification system in the humi. I would like to hear more on this subject.
CaptainQuintero Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Theres a store near me which doesn't look after its stock, ripped wrappers and mould. They have open boxes of various cohiba going back over a decade and most are bleached, a box that stands out in my memory were some CCE; they were almost white

Either way not a good look 1
mikemerry Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I've wondered this too.... Does sunlight have a role in this? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

RijkdeGooier Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 It has been my limited experience (once and never again) that strong sunlight has a detrimental effect on the tobacco quality
ChanceSchmerr Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I know of a shop in Vancouver that has this problem. It breaks my heart because I've been there many times and they consistently have rare/HTF cigars (including BGMs, RA898s, etc) that you just can't touch because they are so damaged. The bleaching damage was in the extreme.
