Hello All,

I'm headed down to both Montreal and Old Quebec over Valentine's day weekend and was hoping if anyone knew any establishments where you could both eat and indulge in a cigar...without having to isolate myself in a cigar lounge that is within the restaurant...I am from Ontario so i know squat about smoking laws in QC, but i do know and have experienced smoking and hanging out at the Montreal LCDH, so i am hopeful that such a place exists.

Main reason i ask is that i will be with the gf and though i know it would be next to impossible to have her hangout with me in a smokey cigar lounge, she seems to be entertaining the possibility of being ok with the type of restaurant that you can both dine and smoke :) LOL...kind of like these really cool and classy establishments in the UK.

I'm taking what i can get fellow leaf lovers! lol

I believe it can be done at the whiskey cafe, i don't know it they have the complete menu at the lounge, but when i went there we had cheese platter and things like that.

Stogies on Rue Crescent is a guaranteed stop for me every time I'm in Montreal. The atmosphere is great, the staff is great. My wife doesn't smoke, but enjoys a drink or two and loves the place as well.

My favourite spot used to be the little courtyard of a bar called Baldwin Barmacie. It has a heater so even if it's -5C you are comfortable. The Baldwin closed in September after 10 years so the owners could launch a new concept - the Henrietta (http://www.barhenrietta.com/). It's on Laurier avenue, close to Dieu du Ciel (great microbrewery/pub) and plenty of good restaurants (Leméac, la Chronique, Mikado...

Otherwise there's the lounge on the 2nd floor of Alexandre & fils on Peel. The food is B+ IMO and the lounge is small so cannot get too smoky.

Enjoy your time here!

The last time I went to Baldwin I asked if they would allow to smoke in the courtyard when the new place was to open and they said yes...

Rib N Reef, but I am fairly certain you can only smoke in the lounge upstairs, not at the dining table.

In Quebec City check out Bar Societe Cigare. Was a decent spot on humidor and drinks don't think they had food but there were a ton of restaurants on the street

you can eat in the lounge upstair and smoke as well. not in the dining area downstairs however.

Stogies is a nice spot, but they tend to play loud obnoxious club music on friday and saturday nights. go in the afternoon on weekday evening.

Whisky cafe is not really downtown, and they charge a cut fee and service is not that great.

Old Quebec, Societe du cigar is the only spot i know where you can smoke.

Hope that helps

Great place to light up and have a drink or two, but I don't think they serve food. LOVE Quebec City!

Rib N Reef is probably the best place for food and cigars but it can be expensive pretty quick. I find stogies is the best lounge, good location (especially during summer and the Montreal Grand Prix) but there is no food at all and like others said, the music could be better.

Thank you all for your replies it is much appreciated! I guess it seems that most, if not all these places do not offer a full dining and smoking experience, without breaking the bank for dinner as was mentioned for Rib and Beef place (which the lounge is still separate from the dining room anyways...)

I read up on that place actually and many said that although everything is great, the quality in food is lacking. I think that turns me away more than anything especially if the menu is priced at the higher end. I 'd rather spend that type of dinner coin at one of the many wonderful restaurants that Montreal or Old Quebec has to offer that have rave reviews.

I will look more into Societe Cigar or Whisky Cafe. I think the missus is easier to convince if i don't have to have us whisked off into a lounge separate from the dining area :lmao:

Anyone heard or been to Chez Alexandre Brasserie and Cigar Lounge?

If anyone knows any other places it is much appreciated.

Chez Alexandre is a very small place. probably fit 12-15 max. YOu are much better off having a cigar at stogies or the cigar lounge at Rib n Reef

Hmmmmm. Riaz and others - was just talking with Simon recently via e-mail. Looking at coming up there for a weekend soon, by the end of February latest (though Valentine's weekend won't work for me, otherwise, I'd love to meet up with cigarbreak and others then).

Any thoughts on maybe getting something organized for at either end of February??
