Smallclub Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 CC's seem to have a far greater range in appearance than any NS's I ever bought. Is it a matter of NC factories having higher quality control and "Cuba being Cuba"? Habanos wrappers have a greater range in appearance because of the way they are grown and processed; it has nothing to do with QC. PSD4s with greenish wrappers sell in european shops at the same rate and speed than those with dark and oily wrappers. Maybe 1 customer out of 50 will make a remark or ask to see an other box. And btw, one of the worst features of many NCs is precisely their crappy thick dark wrapper (not even mention the terrible grass tasting Connecticut wrapper)… 1
LateApex Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 We're seeing more maduro CC's.... maybe this box was a prototype candela that slipped through the R&D backdoor.... In anticipation of the embargo coming down. We have lots of liquor stores that will need CC's too here in the States!
Smallclub Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 It seems that eveyone forgets the fact that "candela" is a process prior to being a color…
BBS Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 So, I'm going to ask the 'dumb' question.....are those off shade wrappers really bad, due to poor fermentation of the wrapper, etc....or are they just a different color....?? Like everyone here, I like the looks of the luscious brown ones....but are the others really 'bad'....??
GasGuy82 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 In this case, the "Candela" appearance wrappers are not my bag, then again D4's are not my bag whether PSP, HQ or PE. That said, I've had an Illusione Holy Lance with a factory intended candela wrapper which was quite delicious. 1

There was no oil, flat, lifeless, green/grey and brittle. Wrapper leaf is graded. That would have been fine on domestic peso cigars or Guantanamera. 2
eswary Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 But wouldn't it be better if they grouped cigars not by color, but instead by roller? And maybe provided a roller code on the box... Always thought the same. I sometimes wonder when people say "the box as a whole was all one way or another due to the construction", when in reality the cigars are rolled collectively by several different people and then sorted by the shade of wrappers. planetary Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I have heard it remarked that Habanos production is intentionally lower than maximum at the moment - perhaps only at half capacity. So if there are vast surpluses of processed leaf, why the pressure to use sub-par leaf at all? Has tobacco farming been cut back to match manufacturing throughput, as well? Are quantities of superior leaf being set aside for aging or in anticipation of a spike in demand?
jeht Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 A graphic example for not buying blind. This variation within the same matercase is truly disturbing. I will buy blind with a d4 in a minute!! Have almost never been let down (1 bad box)in many many many years.
