Reconnecting with an old friend

Reconnected with an old friend over the last few weeks. I met Travis in I think, the 6th grade playing basketball on the local traveling team. We went on to different High School's where Travis became all everything in football. He received a full ride to Florida State and was drafted 16th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. Injuries cut his career short while with the San Diego Chargers but he is a cigar and whiskey lover and after seeing some social media posts, i tracked down his number and we've been talking almost everyday about cigars, whiskey and of course, the good old days.

A couple weeks ago I sent a small package with some CC's and a few higher end NC's. Well, today an unexpected package arrived. Personalized note reads "I just wanted to say thanks. It's been a long time since anyone but my parents sent me anything so this is for you my friend."

Also in the package was a Padron 50th Anniversary and an Opus X "A" Coffin.

Travis is the type of guy that would do anything for those close to him. He is loyal to the core and I couldn't be happier to have reconnected. Now I just need to get out to Houston to share a few cigars and some different whiskeys.

Don't worry BOTL, I have already directed him to FOH and am encouraging him to introduce himself and enjoy the community. Be on the look out!!! Thanks for reading and be nice to him if/when he joins. He is a very big dude!

Very cool. I am sure you are so glad you reached out and it sounds he is as well!

I have a couple of friends that also had high hopes and aspirations in the NFL that were taken out before they could really get going.

It's really a shame to see since they dedicate so much to the sport to have it pulled out from under their feet so young.

Spending time with the wife and kids and doing some sports radio and TV work. He also does some pre-draft work out programs for guys getting ready to be drafted. Staying busy and staying active.
