tippexx Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I thought tins were relatively safe. This this afternoon. Went into the Tup for a suitable smoke for a rain dodging afternoon, and was met by two holes I'm pretty sure weren't there last time. Each is about 1mm diameter and almost perfectly round. Fortunately it is a tin and I don't think anything can exit from it. There were in fact three cigars in the tin and I smoked the one without a hole.So what do I do now? I guess the tin has to be chucked, shame as I quite enjoyed the ones I did get to smoke. 1
ElPuro Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Would recommend freezing all your cigars upon arrival. I have not noticed any ill effect.
PapaDisco Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 The one time I had something similar (a tubo PSD4 from Germany with a single beetle hole), I dissected the cigar and found: 1 dead adult in the tubo, and 1 dead grub in the cigar. I'm sure I could've smoked that stick instead and it would have been fine, but I was curious. Tobacco beetles need a male and a female to reproduce IIRC, so unless you really got lucky and had one of each, you don't have to worry about having a pile of grubs in there. Maybe cut one open for science and smoke the other?
ralphie48 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Hopefully that never happens to me all of my smokes are stored at 65/65 but considering I'm outgrowing my wineador I'm considering starting a coolerdoor(s) and the thought of freezing first irks me guess I'm going to have to make a decision
Fumadoro Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I just started freezing my older stock as a precaution after multiple people have told me that freezing has no ill effect on the cigar. All new cigars entering my house will be frozen upon arrival.
