Scrubber Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Not sure if there are many rugby league fans on the forum but I'd love to hear any thoughts or predictions on this weekends first round of the finals and predictions on who is going to win the premiership. I'm a Bulldogs fan so naturally I think (hope?pray?) they will win the comp. Roosters seem like the team to beat at this stage. Bunnies seem to have totally crumbled in the last few weeks and it will be hard for them to win. I'm tipping Roosters, Bulldogs, Broncos and Sharks to win this weekend. jat Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I've been saying for ages we should have a SPORTS subforum and put all the NFL, NRL, AFL etc under that. This week end I'm going: + Melb, (sentimental) + Dogs (reluctantly as I don't think the dragons are up to it) + COWBOYS (just need to get some reasonable decisions from the on-field ref, the video ref and a bit of luck, robbed 3 years in a row) + Bunnies , just so I don't have to watch Gallen again this season. as you can see my choices are based on sound logic and a deep consideration of recent form and history....not.
jat Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Well Storm are through and chooks to play next week. Disruptive sort of game with Melb just doing enough to stop roosters rhythm. A few great plays by individuals (Jennings), but not enough. Injuries will be the key to next weeks performance and Koroibete's sliced achilles is a real shame as his first try was like lightening. Three games to go.
Scrubber Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 Not the best game but the last 15mins or so was exciting. That SKD try was spectacular. Looks like you're 1 from 1 JAT. Hope you're right about the Bulldogs tomorrow night Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JohnS Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 The Roosters had a 12-game winning streak which included a 24-2 shellacking of the Storm in Round 12 so this Storm win gives them significant momentum for the rest of the finals series, much like Penrith last year.
NaFFe Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Will be hard for storm to keep going with all the injuries, good game though
jat Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 2 faaaar dogs home in a tight game, full marks to the dragons and tissues to their supporters, down by a point !!!! Carn the COWBOYS !!!!!
Scrubber Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Dogs almost gave me a heart attack tonight but happy we won. JAT cowboys let you down. Another great close game though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jat Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Arrrrrrhhhhhhh [inset crying emotocon] that was like a state of origin game. the pace, the intensity, I had to leave the room at one point ! And the ref!!!! penalty for not getting up around the 59 min, come on !!!! At least there is next week, we're not gone yet. Broncos look good at home, but I'm not convinced they look the biz. 2 for 3, ....bunnies lift your game.
JohnS Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 The following article by Michael Carayannis is a good example why one should be wary before getting into sports journalism... http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/canterbury-bulldogs/enjoy-the-victory-canterbury-bulldogs-fans-it-could-be-your-last-after-one-point-win-against-st-george-illawarra-20150912-gjl4ak.html Aside from the fact that Michael used to write up the sports section of the local newspaper, the St George Leader, and has let obvious bias cloud things, here's a rundown below of the Bulldogs run to the Grand Final in 2014... 20th July 2014 - 46-18 loss to the Wests Tigers 26th July 2014 - 20-12 loss to the North Queensland Cowboys 1st August 2014 - 22-16 loss to the Penrith Panthers 8th August 2014 - 41-10 loss to the Brisbane Broncos 15th August 2014 - 18-16 win over the Parramatta Eels 21st August 2014 - 30-10 win over the Wests Tigers 28th August 2014 - 21-14 loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs 7th September 2014 - 19-18 loss to the Gold Coast Titans So, 2 wins and 5 losses while they seemingly limped to the finals series in 7th position (out of 8). And how did they go after this? Elimination Final - 28-4 victory over the Melbourne Storm Semi-Final - 18-17 victory over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles (Wow...that was a one-point win, but was it the last game?...no!) Preliminary Final - 18-12 victory over the Penrith Panthers (I was there at Homebush...great atmosphere and great night!) So, to get into the Grand Final from 7th position was incredible. Yes, they went down to the Rabbitohs 30-6, but I recall the game was close up until about the 60th minute (three-quarters into the game). My view is thus...write off the Bulldogs at your own peril. They are a well-drilled team who know how to play finals football under the exprerienced and guiding hand of Des Hasler. I can testify that the other teams in the Finals series this year would prefer to play other teams on the way to the Grand Final.
Scrubber Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 I find the article pretty strange. Dragons played pretty well. Bulldogs did not play at their best. That doesn't mean that they will somehow collapse next weekend. I would never write off any Des Hasler coached team in a big game. I don't honk the roosters will. They will be up for a tough game. Its going to be a cracker. Only thing I am concerned about are any suspensions for Kasiano and Pritchard. The knee in the back didn't look good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JohnS Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Only thing I am concerned about are any suspensions for Kasiano and Pritchard. The knee in the back didn't look good. For those of you who don't believe in miracles.... http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/canterbury-bulldogs-forward-frank-pritchard-cleared-by-nrl-judiciary-to-play-against-roosters-20150915-gjnapm.html It seems Frank convinced the judiciary that his knees didn't make contact, just his shins. I'm sure that didn't hurt as much! I think Frank should consider whether he should play in England next year or seek a cabinet ministry on Malcolm Turnbull's team! 1

partriar Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Bring on the Bronco's. What an out stand performance from both the Queensland teams.
jat Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Yeah, Pritchard has the agility and grace to put his 'shin' into Widdops back ??? Short of repeatedly punching a ref in the head, the match review committee won't suspend players during finals season.
benigma Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Sharks fan here and I reckon we can get the cows this weekend. If we go down I'll be jumping on the Rooster's bandwagon which is my old man's team. Roosters should have enough to beat the bulldogs you would think.
jat Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 What is the NRL finals doing on the 4th page!!!! Come on NRL fans, we want this up front. I'm calling it early, Brisbane V Cowboys grand final. Broncos are handing the chooks their tickets home. And I'm supporting the cowboy's over the Storm. Effectively 3 QLD teams in the top 4.
Scrubber Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Yep I'm tipping Broncos v Cowboys GF. Despite it not having a Sydney team it will be a cracker game. That's if it happens lol. Broncos are doing it fairly easy against the roosters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jat Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 That's it Scrubbers What a weekend.... NRL, AFL and RCW, who needs those show ponies at NFL (have I used enough 3 letter terms??) Love this time of year.
Scrubber Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Feast of great sport this weekend. Starting off with a great game tonight. High quality football. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jat Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Broncs through. You know the Master Coach Wayne is happy, no smile just a single clap. And to hear Gus Gould choke on the fact that there will be no NSW teams in the GL Oh the tears of joy.
JohnS Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Roosters were behind the eight ball from the time Darius Boyd was gifted that first try in the first minute. After that, the chooks were playing catchup football.
jat Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 COWBOYS COWBOYS COWBOYS !!! I'll go horse cheering for 2 QLD teams I was there in 2005 when the boys lost to the Tigers and had to drink all night waiting for the flight home in the morning, because I didn't have any accommodation in Sydney. I'm calling it.....this is the year. Bring on next weekend.
Scrubber Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 Cowboys did it fairly comfortably. I'm with them in the GF. Going to be a cracker of a game Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jabster Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Oh great 2 Qld teams in the grand final! First origin, now this. It's hard work being a New south Welshman
