Hi Friends!!

I am relatively new to cigars and newer still to Habanos. I'm looking to try some different CCs, learn about what I like and dislike, and then purchase some boxes of my favorites!

Some background about me...

The first cigar I truly enjoyed was a single bought at a mountain-top restaurant/B&B in Caracas, Venezuela back in 2012. Until then, I had smoked handful of different NCs (years apart, at weddings and such) - I never paid much attention to the maker/cigar name because I didn't enjoy the experience very much. With low expectations, I treated my first CC the same way. As a result, I have NO idea what I smoked - but oh, the memories... what an incredible experience.

Fast forward to about a year later and I'm trying out some middle of the road cigars available in the US - things like Kristoff, Rocky Patel, etc. - then I find the Padron 1926 Maduro. Boom, now this is a cigar I enjoy. Nothing as magical as that first night in Venezuela, but I really enjoyed the Padron and stuck with it for quite a while, smoking it almost exclusively. I was fairly routine about smoking once a week or couple of weeks and didn't think much about starting a collection until two things happened.

The first thing was my father in law bringing me two boxes of Cohiba Maduro5 Secretos as a wedding gift. He really had no idea what he was bringing me, and I had only slightly more of an idea - but I knew they were special. And so it proved when I smoked the first one - incredible cigar experience. The rest were great as well.

The second thing was on honeymoon, I had 3 CCs - at the time I had no idea what they were, but I did take pics. Research says they were a Monte Petit Edmundo (quality was good, but not my preferred taste), a RyJ Short Churchills that knocked my socks off, and either a Cohiba Robustos or a well-made fake Cohiba (in my memory it was ok, but not as good as the Maduro5 Secretos and definitely not as good as the RyJ - in my pics, the wrapper looks quite dark). The RyJ was an excellent cigar that was definitely to my taste. Both of these experiences left me wishing that I could smoke CCs more often, but they were out of my reach so I put them out of mind for the most part.

A few months back, I decided I wanted to start experimenting with some of the boutique brands of Central America and the Caribbean - I still love the Padrons, but I was craving some diversity and variety. I had just ordered my 2nd sampler of Nicaraguans and Dominicans when I stumbled upon some information that caused my jaw to just about hit the floor - I had the eureka moment that CCs are obtainable. Well after that, it's been a fast and furious couple weeks of research. By a fortunate stroke of luck, I have a best friend that has an independent but strikingly similar story to mine - but he's always been a 3-6 months ahead of me in the progression. Fortunately CCs are no exception and his guidance has been really helpful. I'm looking forward to trying a Petit Corona Sampler and I truly can't wait to get started on this journey of discovery!

Great story. Discovering cigars is a journey with many surprises. I think even the experienced members are still on the journey of trying to find their perfect cigar.

I would recommend starting by getting some of Rob's samplers. They are fantastic and you get the best sample of each cigar so you know it is a true reflection of any particular cigar.

As for petite coronas. I tried my first por laranaga PC yesterday and it was one of my favourite cigars so far. Love the caramel notes.

Love NYC btw. Would love to go back soon.

Welcome!

Thank you for the warm welcome! For anyone who needs a summary version of my first post - I've loved the few CCs I've had so far; now I need to try some samplers and see what I like!

Thanks all! I had a bit of luck with good timing and was able to get in on 2 partial box splits with the friend I mentioned. I'll be getting 10 Bolivar Petit Coronas and 10 Vegas Robaina Famosas. Hopeful that I'll find these to be a good start!
