Anth87 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Hi all Have ordered a 32 btl thermo - have around 6 boxes - will bovedas suffice or do I need beads? I live on Gold Coast Australia so warm temps high humidity Thanks
Dimmers Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Recommend the beads i linked in earlier thread you posted here. Im in Brisbane, and they havent missed a trick.
wolfain Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I use both, heartfelt beads use need a bit more maintenance during the dry months, otherwise both are just as good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
egoo33 Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Honest to goodness kitty litter cheap low maintenance and did I mention its cheap
Professor Twain Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I do the kitty litter beads, work great. BUT your humidity will stabilize best when the fridge is 2/3 or better full. You will also note a lot of "swing" in humidity between when the temperature is at its peak (say 65 degrees F) versus at its lowest (say 60 degrees). Don't worry too much about that, the humidity inside the boxes won't very as much as the humidity outside the boxes. Unless you have fans, you can also expect a differential in humidity between the top and the bottom. I use wireless remote hygrometers to monitor... and every couple of months, rotate your boxes. The boxes at the bottom will get too humid, at the top too dry. I pull cigars that I want to smoke into a desktop so that they can have a nice stable humidity.
Anth87 Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 thanks for the advice! My fridge probably wont be delivered until the end of the week, so will test with the boveda's I have (around 8 69RH packs) if not stable will order beads. I'm dreading the fact that I've ordered a fridge - as you all know, more tempting to fill it as who likes seeing an empty fridge?? My poor VISA haha
polarbear Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Depends on how you plan to stock the fridge I know guys who put all their stock into Tupperware containers with boveda packs before putting them in the fridge This adds a little more protection against condensation damage and beetle outbreak but it does reduce your capacity a bit I use beads and shelves as I need to Tetris as many boxes into the fridge as I can. Keep in mind, If you use beads its a good idea to have multiple hygrometers at different locations in the fridge as you will find there will be some variation in RH in the fridge between shelves. The fridge I have full of singles in draws has a hygrometer in each draw and there is sometimes a 10% variance between the top draw and bottom draw despite both hygrometers being the same model and begin calibrated
Felixthecat Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I reccomend both you will need to play around with beads and bag count. But I think I have found equilibrium using both because the bag and beads feed off each other. For instance you can't use to many bags because they give off humidifacation and abdorb, so do the beads . I had a bag that swelled up large was weird I added a half lb of beads and that seed to correct itself. I have two newair 280 I use 2 LB of beads and about 15-20 bags now I have been steady at about 65 /65 for last 4 months going on 5 months without any problems? Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
