Popular Post Colt45 Posted August 4, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 4, 2015 I smoked my first Havana more than ten years ago, but have only been smoking Cuban cigars steadily since August 2005. It's much less time than many members, but I like to think it's given me a chance to paint a bit of a picture - there can really be no conclusion ( to be fair, I've no cigars in my possession younger than 2008) at least for now There have been a few truly enlightening moments. A large number of reliably great cigars. A fair amount of mediocrity. A few truly poor examples. It's been extremely rewarding on a number of levels. Head scratchingly frustrating at times. But if nothing else, I truly enjoy the learning aspect - what some might consider the journey. I think I've learned without realizing I was being taught, which might just be the most enjoyable way to do so. But at the core, I love a great cigar. A great Cuban cigar sings....... Looking forward to my next. And the next one after that, ........... 10
Habana Mike Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Great stuff! It is amazing the amount of knowledge one accumulates as they follow a passion.
olotti Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Me too a decade here and I've had many many boxe of Cubans and some just amazing others were like smoking nc's but I just figure there's such a large variable that they all can't be great amazing boxes and I think it's also a testament to how far the NC cigars have come. Now saying that i don't believe any NC tastes like a Cuban but sometimes a cc from any marka can be non descript and not what your just expecting when you've had one that nails the profile so in that regard to me a non descript psd4 tastes like a good NC, it's just not setting itself apart. That being said I've had more amazing Cubans than any NC that have made me stop what I was doing and really appreciate what the cigar is and what it's meant to be. Such is the case with this 07' Punch SS 11 I'm smoking now, truly amazing, it ticks all the boxes as Rob would say just sit back and revel in the cigar.
jholen Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I'm literally at just a year in. Already made the shift from primarily NC to primarily CC, in just the last two months really. Still enjoy many NC sticks but find myself drifting towards CCs more and more. Very cool to hear people share their experiences who have been enjoying this hobby much longer than I have. Congrats!
vavrekjjj Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 i'm smoking both CC and NC .... CC are still my TOP's (Connie A, BRC , RyJ WCH ) but NC ( Ashton VSG , Oliva V, Oliva V Melanio, Padron 1964, ... ) are each time close and close and there are tons of a new smokes ( AJ FERNANDEZ , CROWNED HEADS , ... ) that are really good .... so i see good progress in nicaraguan and dominican cigars mainly.... in CC bigger parts are mediocre , but i agree if you find proper rolled stick with right beautifull wrapper = still TOP 1
