Tapatalk acting up. After writing a reply three times, I lost the motivation.

I recall one memorable article from an aficionado a few years ago. In here the writer has done an experiment with the storage of cigars in different environments for a period of two years (in a jar, in the original box, in the box vacuum packed, loose in the humidor). His conclusion was the the storage in the original box was the best in the original box. He linked this with the positive aspects of the box which is the density of cigars combined with air scarcity.

A possible issue with taking a cigar out of the box here and there while storing the rest could be that more air would be left in to box. The more air in the box, the faster the loss of aroma. Therefore, the question to the Pres is: did you have several boxes of the same cigar which you smoked one after 8, 9, 10, 11 years or did you have one box and took a cigar out every year? If latter, I would assume / hypothesize that the fact that the amount of air in the box would have left to the loss of aroma and that the Pres would have had a different experience if he would have kept the box full until year 11.

Again, just a hypothesis. Does anybody have a first hand experience on this? I have several boxes which I am storing for years (target 5-10) where I am reluctant to break up the box before the end of the targeted storage time to smoke one cigar from time to time for this reason.
