Colt45 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Construction: Feels a bit light, with some spring, but seems nicely packed. Wrapper: Nice Colorado, typical veining, dryish but smooth to the touch. Discreetly oily. Pre-Light Aroma / Draw: Aroma of barnyard and raisin. Excellent draw with a taste of cocoa and raisin. Draw / Burn / Smoke Volume: Draw and smoke volume were superb, burn very good. Taste: Initial draws are dark and rich - medium body with a velvety, full mouth feel. Flavor is somewhat subdued - slightly nutty, shortbread, the lightest tinge of underlying fruit. Thoughts an inch plus in - very dark ash with the springy construction make me think that perhaps this cigar is a bit damp. But.... cigars from other boxes within the same cooler haven't shown the same. Might it be construction, or that these are packaged SLB versus SBN or Dress Box? Hmm... Anyway - Fully into the first third, it remains dark and smooth. Flavor is straightforward quality tobacco. Slightly woody / tannic / dryish, with the tobacco just on the plus side of sweet. Finish is a little sharp but not at all harsh. Ash is almost black. Nearing midpoint, it retains it's earlier qualities - velvety texture, straightforward tobacco / shortbread flavor. Overall impression - very composed, if unassuming. Past midpoint there is no real evolution, but I enjoy it's body, texture, sense of refinement with a slight tannic twinge. There are underlying flavors, but they don't / can't reach the surface. The final third shows much the same, with some added hints of green pepper. My initial thoughts of a slightly damp / springy cigar become thoughts of a cigar which is somewhat underfilled, though to no serious detriment. Nearing the end, instead of becoming darker / harsher, it actually shows a bit more sweetness - I can't help but have a surprised chuckle. Comments: Overall, the kind of cigar I can get into. Not overt in character, not really lacking the same. I could smoke it while reading, at the lounge, with friends, alone. It nudged me to remember that in essence, cigars are tobacco - that good cigars are quality tobacco. 1
Rye Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 The last one of these I smoked was fantastic. Thanks for the review!
Puros Y Vino Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Smoked one last night. Loved it. Very flavourful, very much an RA throughout.
lonederranger Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I just picked up a cab of these but yet to smoke one. Thanks for the review.
nick2021 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 May also be time for me to fire one up, thanks for the review!
LLC Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I still have some from the same box code. I haven't had one in a while but I've always enjoyed them.
Colt45 Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 I think I'll give another a crack soon. And so I did (two actually, in quick succession)..... Both what I'm accustomed to with these (both '06 and '07) - extremely tight draws, which render the cigar almost unsmokable. Cut the first on both ends a few times to no avail and pitched it. Second right after was pretty much the same, but I "plugged" on until midway, and quit. It's a shame, as the underlying flavors are there - overall quality of construction just hasn't been.
brownpeter335 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Nice review! The draw is all good and a nice air flow with a slight resistance. I just loved it.
Mr.T Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Nice review. Fortunately I have had good luck with my 07 box Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
