I love a good beer, craft beer, boutique beer, imports, doesn't matter, I'll try it.

I've enjoyed many stouts/porters over the years and have been eyeing off the Sierra Nevada for quite sometime I figured I'd give it a try. So the other day went into Dan Murphy and grabbed a 6 pack.

What an amazing beer! Dark, decadent, rich but medium bodied, not over powering. Tastes of dark chocolate, caramel, toasted malt and a lingering coffee taste that stays long on the finish. Brilliant, so much so, I'm quite happy to enjoy this and this alone or at least rotate it with Guinness.

I'm already thinking about making a lovely pulled pork using the Porter this weekend. I think these rich flavors will be brilliant.

Anyone have any thoughts on this beer?

Update:

Found this recipe for the pulled pork using the beer. Might modify a bit but seems pretty good.

Ingredients
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon mustard powder
1/2 tablespoon coriander
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
Generous pinch of salt
2 pounds pork shoulder or pork butt
2.5 bottles of Sierra Nevada® Porter
1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce, 12-14 ounces
4 buns
1.5 cups coleslaw
Instructions
Mix all dry spices in a small bowl. Rub the spice mixture onto all sides of the pork. Place the pork in a slow cooker with 2 bottles of Porter. (The pork should be just more than half submerged in the beer.) Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
Remove tender, finished pork and flake apart with a fork. Move the flaked pork into a large skillet with high sides. Pour the slow cooker’s remaining liquid into the skillet, adding an entire bottle of BBQ sauce and 1/2 bottle of Porter. (Take a guess at what to do with the other half!) Under high heat, bring the liquid to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer the pork for 20 minutes or until most of the liquid is gone.
Top hearty buns with a large scoop of pork, layer on some coleslaw and, at risk of stating the obvious, enjoy. This pork is also great in grilled cheese sandwiches, quesadillas, tacos, or just by itself.

Sierra Nevada make fabulous frothy ones.

Search out Garage Project's darker beers if you're that way inclined.

I have had the new Stone & Wood Stone Beer. Another dark one. Their Jasper Ale is radical. But I dare say, anything will be hard pressed to beat that Stone beer.

I love Sierra Nevada, one of my favorite breweries. They bottle condition their pale ale so as a homebrewer you can propagate their wonderful Chico yeast and have your beers taste sooooooo gooooooood!

I remember my first Sierra Nevada, it was like the heavens descended and embraced me. My tastes have changed a bit since, however I'd never pass one up. Unless there is an ice cold bud light available too........Siiiike

Giving this a run tonight

It will either be my greatest triumph, or my greatest failure

Pulled Pork Update

Worked a treat. I put a 2kg rolled shoulder in for around 12 hours and the meat fell apart as soon as I started poking it.

Flavour wasn't too bad but I'd recommend cutting the sugar back a little, using a tart BBQ sauce and maybe adding more garlic powder (or minced garlic)

Also, it says to use all the liquid from the cooker in the pan, I'd prob use half of it cause it takes quite a while to reduce it down to a point where its not pulled pork soup

All in all, if you're a fan of slow cooker pulled pork, this is a nice change of pace. Its very easy and pretty tasty.

I've been eating the left overs for lunch for the last few days.

I recommend toasted pulled pork sandwiches with cheese and mustard. Tasty

Left overs is always awesome! Thanks for the update. :)

I used more garlic in mine and worked very well.
