AlBaron Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Gents, on my upcoming business trip to South Africa, I'm faced with 7+ hour layovers in Frankfurt and then in Munich (on the way back to US). Since I've never been to Germany, I'm looking for cigar-related suggestions of things to do while I wait for the next plane. Thanks much, Alex
Smallclub Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 If you're a pipe smoker you must visit this famous shop in Munich: Pfeifen Huber Tal 22 80331 München
SokaKiel Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Have a look at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Frankfurt, they've got a decent Sports/Cigar bar near the reception area. They sell some cigars but I've always had my own when I went there for a smoke. Depending on the day of the week and timing it might not be a good idea to head to Frankfurt itself, rush hour is as bad as anywhere else and Taxi's are quite pricy. On Sunday's and evenings lots of downtown is pretty much closed and quite anyways. There is a new Davidoff outlet in town but I haven't heard anything about it yet. In Munich you can smoke in the "Airbräu" beer garden just outside the terminal. It's open air but covered with a 100ft. high stadium like roof. It's dry but it can get breezy so take a jumper or a jacket with you. You've got the same issues as in Frankfurt if you want to head into town, it's an expensive/long cab ride away, you might opt for train or bus. There are some good museums in town and the Tabak Sommer Megastore as the biggest cigar outlet. Enjoy your time in SA and Germany, I can't wait to get back to Europe for the summer season next Tuesday after more than six month! Cheers, Leif
Mycroft Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 If you are planning to buy cigars at Frankfurt airport first sign up to Henemann and download their app. You get a 10% discount on first purchase and prices are decent. Have to be flying out of EU from there though. Might also be able to claim a further tax rebate on top of that I think if you are non-eu resident.
