GasGuy82 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I picked up an odd flavor last night while enjoying a younger (2014) BPC. On top of some creaminess and espresso, somewhere at the end of the second third/beginning of the final third I was struck by the presence of roasted meat. It was not at all unpleasant but as I sat savoring the stick, roasted meat came to mind in a strong way. Is this just an instance of confusion and my unrefined palate or have others experienced a similar flavor?
garbandz Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 You can get a savory, meat like nuance sometimes, you have a good palate.............
Smallclub Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 To my taste roasted meat is an usual flavor in the Bolivar line. Actually I'm surprised that it's so rarely evoked. No confusion here, your "palate" (actually your taste buds + your olfactory system) is in perfect working order! I sometimes find a flavor close to red, raw meat, in the SLR line.
Orion21 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Nope, never. I get this with RyJ Cazadores quite often though. I remember once I had a BPC that I lit up that was so spicy (jalapeno) that I tossed it after 4-5 mins. I grabbed another and it was like smoking sugarcane. Sometimes these things just surprise you! 1
habanolover Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Been waiting on the arrival of a BPC box for what seems like eons
GasGuy82 Posted April 29, 2015 Author Posted April 29, 2015 Glad to hear my taste buds might be better than I give them credit for! As for spiciness, I experienced that with BPCs up until now. I decided a few months back to let these sit and revisit later. I was rewarded with one of my top 2-3 smokes of 2015 thus far.
AlBaron Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 It's funny you mentioned meat in connection with Bolivar. I'm very new to CCs and all I have are the fresh cigars. A couple of times within the last 2 months, while enjoying a Boli PC - ULA ABR 14, I thought of ribs... I thought it was because of the espresso connection (I usually make an espresso lemon BBQ sauce for my ribs), but, on the other hand, I didn't get the same note while smoking a Monte (which is more coffee/espresso than Boli). I'm glad Im not the only one Alex

cns187 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Been waiting on the arrival of a BPC box for what seems like eons me too, still waiting for mine to arrive.
dicko Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I've had both roast meat and charcuterie flavour characters in cigars. I had one RA superiores that was basically like a slice of ham haha. never had it close to that pronounced in any oither cigar. often it is coupled with a leathery taste like the R&J cazzy like Orion noted.
GavLew79 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 "Roasted meat" features quite often in my tasting notes. You are not alone.
