Deodato Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Interesting piece in the Guardian today on Havana's ice cream 'cathedral'. Can't wait to visit Cuba - I hope I can get there in the next 12-18 months. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/14/future-of-coppelia-cuba-socialist-ice-cream-cathedral 1
Ryan Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Nice article, thanks for that. I've passed by the original one lots of times, it's opposite the Habana Libre hotel. Always a big queue as the article says. There is no queue for people who pay in CUCs but I could never bring myself to walk past so many kids waiting in the heat to get their ice-cream, or their parents. It's none of my business what any other tourist does but to me, I may as well be saying "f you" to the lot of them. 1
oliverdst Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 i may be wrong but there are 2 lines: one to cubans and one to non-cubans. very diferent prices and very diferent waiting time.

I've never seen a line though for non-Cubans. If you're willing to pay in CUCs and 25 times as much, you get to walk right in. Still cheap but not 4 cents cheap. As far as I know Cubans can choose the CUC line as well, as long as they have the money. 1

1LegLance Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Was just there a couple of weeks ago with my son, the guards around the place would NOT let us as tourist stand in the Cuban line. We tried across a few days and each time we were spotted and told to go the corner parlors. Different flavors and the prices are of course in CUC....also none of the yummy cake. On a side note the La Casa del Habano in the Habana Libre is very nice, with lots of cool accessories,,,and a nice cigar selection.
