Popular Post Habana Mike Posted April 5, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 5, 2015 Montecristo #2 JM OLSA Mottled milk chocolate paper-thin wrapper leaf. Minor veins Very firm with a bit of give at the foot and a heavy box press, the cigar is almost twice as wide as it is high! Clipped a quarter inch, draw is perfect. Cold draw presents light oak, Buttered brioche, spun sugar. Very faint bouquet. A 19 year old dusky beauty. Lit with soft flame at 1PM Easter Sunday, water on the side. Good smoke production out of the gate. Light cocoa notes predominate. Some woodiness and sweetness in the background. Very creamy and oily on the palate. Cigar is on the lighter side of medium at the start. Burn line a bit uneven but combustion is fine. Dirty gray ash Toasty tobacco, sandalwood and that hint of sugar continues. An inch or so in the strength begins to build a bit, tingly on the retrohale. 30 minutes in the first ash drops. Pronounced caramel and light chocolate notes. Strength decidedly medium, smoke rich and full coats my palate leaving a long lingering café au lait finish. Chocolate trends darker at the halfway point, strength ratcheting up another notch. Woodiness fades in to the background. Second ash drops of its own accord 50 minutes in, more powdery than I typically find on vintage cigars. Slight touch-up with the torch entering the final third. Strength continues to build. Sweetness subsides. A little spiciness on the lips. Wrapper is shining with oils. Final inch delivers bitter cocoa, touch of tannin, mineral notes, leather. A bit drying toward the final ¼ inch. Singed my lips….. Long lingering finish of cocoa, toffee and peanuts. All in all a great Easter cigar, like slowly eating a Cadbury Cream Egg! 6
JohnS Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Wow...a Montecristo No.2 that is sweet and box-pressed, by the looks of it! It goes to show that you can't fully judge a cigar by what it looks like! Mike, I love your nub holder too.
bradbrennan Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Great stick for a great day! Thanks for sharing, Mike!
Optic101 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Great review, great cigar, great pictures. Happy Easter Mike.
Habana Mike Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Greetings, I think you will win the contest with that cigar. I like that nub holder Well, unfortunately the contest was limited to 2014 sticks ;( One reason I posted this in Reviews room vs. Waterhole. Am hoping that Boli Super Coronas review wins though - I need a new watch!
BOTL Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Thank you for this great review. A wonderful cigar. Just carry on
