Cohiba Sublimes 2004?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

My offical second post here at FOH, and I'll try to fill it with as much information as I have learned from you all, so please go easy on me ;)

I had previously smoked a sublime 2004 with a friend of mine and was completey *blown away* by the flavor, draw, and richness of the smoke. Since that time, he brought me an entire box of 2004s (?) which he has been sitting on for quite some time. I have the box, I smoked one, and to be honest... I was non plussed. The cigar was just "ok". Didn't knock me off my chair with goodness, or bring a tear to my eye as the previous sublime. I have attached some pictures for your review.

Some of the things I noticed and have questions about are: the ash appears to be quite white, more indicative of Dominican origin, yes? My experience with the Cohiba line has been that rich, charcoal colored ash. This box does not appear to be the original box sublimes came in, as an image search only turns this box up for sale as a humidor. The cigar is not double banded with the "EL 2004", but then again...were all of the 04s EL? Or just some of them? This humidor box is a 24 count (were these not 25?), and of course there is no box code that I can find to verify. Due to the fact that I am quite late to the game, habanos-wise, I have never actually *seen* these in person being sold since I'm new to the passion. My experiences with the Siglo line, CORO, BHK, etc all result in a nice charcoal ash, flavor complexity, even burn (most of the time), and a surreal smoking experience. This was not that. Please note: I have only smoked one (because I don't want to be on the hook for more than one if they are not what they are supposed to be), and it is possible, I suppose, that this particular one was a "dud". What say you??

Warmest Regards,

CnM

Mexican special.. sorry man.

UGH. Now this becomes one of those times of which Im sure you all have had to deal with at one point or another...how do you TELL someone this?? I suppose the easy out is: "Its just not my taste, but thankyou"...(and it truly isn't) You don't want to hurt someone's feelings, and you definitely do not want to insult a friend, but ugh ugh ugh...

Crikey, no more "is it fake" posts for a while okay?

As for how to tell, just tell. Thank you but here's what I've learned from those knowledgeable about such things. Anything else would be dishonest and likely to land you more both at his expense and yours.

But seriously, people. If you're sitting on a box that you think might be a counterfeit...spend a little time before posting. And posts in the Newbie Introductions thread do not count toward your post count so this was your first legitimate post.

Wilkey
