Noah's Mill Bourbon

Picked a bottle up the other day and tried some tonight with a friend. I had very high expectations for this dram, but it fell very short. Very smooth for 57% alcohol, but the peanut/praline/marzipan flavor ruined it for me. I mean it was just so off-putting. Has anybody else had the same experience? I've never experience such flavors in any kind of scotch/bourbon/rye before.

You'd think it'd be delicious but it was just too pronounced and strange...hard to explain. On a aside note, I did open a bottle of Stranahan's Colorado Whisky and I wholeheartedly recommend that. Awesome stuff.

Where do you find that in our neck of the woods?

Ludwig's in San Anselmo. Small shop, huge selection. There were only 2 bottles left. Nabbed one. They only had a few Stranahan left too.

What neck of the woods are you in? Stranahans was recently purchased by a big spirits company after bring nearly out of the market for a while. It is now pretty widely distributed. I have seen on the shelf in NY, NJ, MD, DC and a few others. I have had their stuff and have tended not to like it but to each their own. You should track down a bottle of Snowflake from them.

...peanut/praline/marzipan...sounds quite delicious...

You don't like peanuts?

I haven't had the Noah's Mill before so I can't really say but I dislike whiskey that has that "artificial sweetener" taste.

I think Noahs Mill is alright but there sure are better products on the market. It tends to change a bit from batch to batch as it is a batched product from KBD who blends the whiskey but does not distill it. It is from KBD or Willett in Bards town. The juice is most likely distilled at Heaven Hill and aged at Willett. It used to have an age statement years ago.

I guess that's just different preferences. I think that peanut and pralines sounds great. I don't like Stranahans at all- had some very strange notes. I didn't write them down, but I think it was minty.
