AndrewNR Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I need a torch like the one in that video.. Loved them at the deck in Brisbane..
oliverdst Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Ryan, You are lucky to have gotten to enter the humidor - I found them very stand-offish when I visited in January, and I tried to engage in conversation a few times, just to get an exasperated cold shoulder.....even though there was no one else in the store or anything. Wouldn't let me near the glass wall. Mr Gerard wasn't there when I was there, so I can't speak for him personally. I know I look like a tourist wanker, but surely if I'm asking for cigars like Diplomaticos No. 1 and such, I must know a little bit about cigars to begin with..... This, combined with the piss-poor condition of the cigars they showed me, makes me certain never to visit their shop again ever. The dried-out Bolivar Lonsdales and Diplomaticos #1s were truly terrifying. The RA Perfecto RE's that I picked up (they were the only open shop in town to have them at the time) took forever to find, I had to go through boxes and boxes to find a few worth getting amidst many poor boxes - and they had removed the insert from the boxes describing the release, I was really upset! No explanation for removing it either. Compare this to the open and pleasant atmosphere at Gestos, and the 3-hr conversation I had with the owner about cigars and just about everything else, and cigar journey through that walk-in humidor with plenty of surprises of its own (RA Especiales de Allones! ERDM Gran Coronas!) - there is no question who in Geneva will get my business in the future. I heard the same about both stores.

Smallclub Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 - and they had removed the insert from the boxes describing the release, I was really upset! No explanation for removing it either. Gérard removes the inserts from EVERY box of LEs, REs, etc. since the start of the LE program. I never managed to get an explanation; obviously it bothers only people like us, not the usual customer of the shop.
Hunter1974 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Cutting and lighting my cigars as a service? No, not for me but it's great to see the passion behind this service. I second this no body is gonna light my baby but me!

Feels presumptuous of them to remove it ahead of time - who are they to decide if I want to read the insert or not? One more reason not to shop there. 1

He's also known for removing the 2nd band of the LCDH releases, such as the Bolivar God Medal. Actually he makes everything that could let some customers think that the special releases (REs, LCDH, ELs) are commissioned by Gérard et Fils... In 2005 you could buy there boxes of Punch Robustos (Swiss RE) on which any mention of "Regional Edition", and even the plate with the number, was gone…
Zigatoh Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Without proper inserts and bands I would never make a purchase, for one thing those are a part of what can be used when checking for authenticity!

I don't think he does that.
Smallclub Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 EDIT: let me re-wright my post: why would a vendor do that? I don't think he does that. This practice has been discussed on european cigar forums for years; I saw the boxes that my friends purchased there, etc. Why would Chance and me report this if it wasn't true/proven/factual?

Because, of course, I have boxes from Gerard with all the stuff. Never mind. Didn't say that you were lying, just that it's not true. No offense.
Smallclub Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Because, of course, I have boxes from Gerard with all the stuff. Never mind. Interesting. Are your boxes ELs, or LCDH releases or Regional editions, and did you purchase them online? The issues I'm talking about are for boxes purchased in the shop - he might have a different politic for online sales...
avaldes Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It is pretty random. I have had MC pull out inserts and crumple them up with disgust. Other times she left them alone. They are all about the cigars and presentation is secondary.
