dangolf18 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Attended James' event in SF this afternoon. Tasted around 140 Italian wines...Barolo, Brunello, Chianti Classico, etc. A lot of great great wines. Tried the Bibi Graetz Colore 2009 which retails for $800...honestly I preferred the Bibi Graetz Toscana Testamatta 2011 which sells for only $109.99. Anyway, wish I could've talked to Suckling a bit about cigars, but it was a big event.
Hohenthal Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 ... only $109.99. ... It's all relative, isn't it? God bless, enjoy.
brutusthebuckeye Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Was James speaking in a phoney Italian accent the whole time.. 1
dangolf18 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Most of the wines were not $100+. Range was $20-$180 (save the $800, which they only made 900 bottles of). There were some great Barolo in the $35-$60 range. The leap from $60 to $100+ wasn't entirely that noticeable. Trying 97-100 point wines was real treat though. Here are a few good values I saw. Cusumano Sicilia Tenuta San Giacomo Sagana 2012....95 points and $39.99 Casaloste Cianti Classico 2010..92 points and $23.99 Ciacci Piccolomini Brunello 2010..94 points and $42.95 Livio Sassetti Brunello 2010...100 points and $54.99 (!!!!!) Siro Pacenti 2010...100 points and $84.99 My favorite: Elio Grasso Barolo Runcot Riserva 2007 and 2008...both $129.99 and 98 and 99 points Roberto Voerzio Barolo Fossati Case Nere Riserva 10 Anni 2004...98 points $180+ Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 2010 100 points and $118.99
dangolf18 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Da-yum! Where'd they hold that? It was at the General's Residence at Fort Mason. Was James speaking in a phoney Italian accent the whole time.. Haha. No actually his Italian was pretty good. His accent could use a little work...
AlohaStyle Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Sounds like a great event... you really tasted 140?? wow! I'm a big fan of Italian reds and especially Brunello, would love something like that.
