a collection of some shockers - the tapeworm cocktail looks a horror but is probably harmless.

bit worryingly, i've actually tried a good few of these. think my gullet still has scars from taiwanese scorpion wine (no wine ever near it).

but the worst thing i've ever tried was something called african hots from a village in the cameroons. so powerful that even after a skinful of all sorts of other things, the locals will not let anyone drink more than a thumbleful, i had it at a local wake and i reckon another thimble of it and there'd be another wake needed.

The most punishing stuff I've drunk is Chinese herbal medicinal wine. So powerful and so bitter. It will sober you up first, then kick you in the brainstem to finish the job. Absolutely punishing.

My friend who's family originally came from Croatia brought some slivovitz with him to a party. The real stuff (super fermented plum brandy). I hear they use it to run their cars when they are low on gas. I had a shot with my friends. Burned on the way down and I had a sore throat for a week. Someone puked on me so went and showered off. They stole my clothes for a brief time I was wearing a beer case for pants. Ah, Youth. It sometimes amazing we lived throught it.
