JohnS Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 And now New South Wales is going to make it illegal to smoke at any establishment that serves food from July 1st, 2015. I still find it hard to believe.
torm3nt Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Personally I think the notions are a good one. I don't think people who are eating, who may not enjoy a smoke (I don't smoke cigarettes, only cigars) mean they can have their meals without being bothered. I honestly can't stand the smell of cigarettes and sometimes it's impossible to move away. It does, however - make it harder for us cigar smokers to enjoy a good cigar at a nice venue. I'll happily pay that cost however, considering it will have a positive effect on the rest of society, with less people being negatively affected by the health cost (and less taxpayer coffers being used in that fashion). I've been to dedicated venues for smokers in europe, as well - and I have to say that it's a lot, lot worse. I end up leaving with sore eyes and a sore throat. I'd much rather go for a walk or find a bar that allows you to smoke outside (most places still allow this). Last but not least - I reckon you'll start seeing establishments who are dedicated to these passions paying for licenses to provide the luxury to its consumers.
JohnS Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 The law will change to prevent you even going outside. And dedicated cigar lounges in Australia?...I don't know of any.
sengjc Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Acutally, I don't believe so. Only the packaging of cigarettes. Which, incidentally, appears to have had only one effect so far - people are tending to buy the cheaper brands of smokes. It may be more due to the numerous price-rises.

JohnS Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 The chap at Smokelovers in Adelaide said there was a lounge in Melbourne. There was but Baranows shut on December 31st, 2014 because the smoking laws and prices of cigars (due to taxation) didn't make it worth their while. Unless you are thinking of another lounge.
GavLew79 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 This was in Dec 2014, so probably one and the same. That's a shame.
