Just had my first sour beer Last week. Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée Rene. Absolutely blown away. Can't wait to try more.

Lindemans is a pretty decent entry into the world of sours.

Next time you are at the store, pick up a bottle of Rodenbach Grand Cru... then report back!

I'm being told to try some Russian River when I'm in Cali on Monday. I will seek out some Rodenbach Grand Cru.

Uh yeah... try and get the Rodenbach and sample that before you get to Russian River. The RR sours will put everything to shame. Rodenbach is awesome but it's the budget sour for sure!

If you get into it, I can give you a whole list of good sours to try, they all have such different characters.

Enjoyed a fair bit of Cantillon and Boon back when I traveled to Ghent and Brussels a few years back.

Think I need to revisit the Gueuze soon!

Not sure if they are available outside of Texas. But if you can get your hands on Jester King out of Austin makes some interesting sours. My favorite being RU55

Berliner Weiss and Oarsman are close, Oarsman is made using a sour mash technique and does have some sour characteristics.

Just had a Boulevard Love Child #4 last night, wow. Pretty mind blowing

Anything Cantillon is incredible. For American sour, seek out some Jolly Pumpkin and definitely do not miss Russian River

I'm a huge sour head! Always looking for Cantillon beer as it is my favorite Brewery, but there are plenty of solid breweries out there doing Sours... Russian River, Almanac, Logsdon, new Glarus, Crooked Stave, Jester King, Free tail, Upland, Ithaca, Boulevard, and more.

I forgot to mention I brew my own Sours as well, just bottled an apricot sour that took a year to make. And I have a other 80 gallons of wort at various stages of souring... Filling the pipeline so I can bottle about 40 gallons a year and do a traditional Gueuze blending 1,2 and 3 year old lambics.

My brew buddy and I are kicking around the idea of brewing sours. We've been brewing for 4-5 years now, but that has slowed to a snails pace. We are just to critical about all the awesome IPAs we can get, why brew one that doesn't meet our standards.

Sours on the other hand, the idea of brewing one and bottling it a year later sounds awesome.

Check out the book wild brews and the newly released American Sours. Both are exceptional reads!

Thanks for the heads-up on these.

Been brewing for years and getting a bit bored with the usual stuff. Will have to give it a try!

I've had love child 3. Haven't seen the 4 yet

4 hit MN a couple weeks back, still some on shelves actually. It's PHENOMENAL!

I absolutely love sour beer! If you guys like sour beer and ever get a chance to visit Asheville NC, you have to check out Wicked Weed Brewing. They probably have some of the best sours I've ever tasted.

Russian River Supplication is my favorite beer of all time. Sour cherry... my God.

Wookie, do you do summer festies?

Posted

I've never had the chance to try and Russian River yet, aside from Pliny!

Summer festies? Like beer fests?

I had a goose island Lolita and it tasted like my daughters diaper smelled and after that magnum I have found out that sours and lambics are not for me

Lolita can be big on brett character, especially depending on how old the bottle is.
