With a 15 month old and another on the way plus my work schedule I'm always burnt so I try to find time to myself in the garage with a few beers to wind down sometimes I'm not as disciplined as I should be and one cigar turn into two and 4 beers turns into 6 etc.and I dont get the rest I really need, so while it was and still is a good escape and while a good vacation would be nice but unaffordable at this juncture I find 9 to18 holes in the morning really helps, played today with the sun and cold crisp air and while I didnt play all that well it sure was relaxing. Got two hours of sleep last night and I felt great rest of the day.

What do you do when you have burn't the candle at both ends for too many weeks/months?

It has been a hell of a two months here between travel, late nights, entertaining, a little illness etal.

Have hit the wall and need a few days doing absolutely nothing pooped.gif

While I haven't got that exact luxury this weekend I will take my son out Bass fishing tomorrow on the Canoe.

Thinking seriously next week of just picking up my fly rods mid week, a few cigars and going "bush" for a day or two.

When you have 'hit the wall"....what are your great personal escapes?

seriously?

cry me a river!!

you sit on a deck overlooking brizzy, smoking cigars, drinking with mates and watching beyonce videos all day (and yes, i know the irony of making such claims but i am not suggesting i have just emerged from the depths of some ivory coast coal mine - and no, i don't watch beyonce).

and when you are not doing that, you are at lunch or travelling or fishing. loving family, great relationship, lots of mates - however do you get up in the morning?

all the while, people are looking for new ways to inflate your bank account.

i have now heard it all. england doesn't whinge as much as this.

please ask me that in the next video. mind you, you'll need the cutting room floor scissors.

Phones off but at least block all the incoming calls except family. Get on the car go out of town. Nature always helps me. When you're mentally down do something physicly tiring. Hiking, swimming or whatever but push it to the edge. However if you are physicly tired just the old good sleep. I simply work like this.

I do a very simple thing: I look at one of those wonderful reviews that you, Ken and Smithy have produced along the years, and it usually puts a smile back on my face! Maybe it is time for you to produce a new one ...

All the best,

Michel

I had twins at the end of last year. Before the birth, my wife had an appendectomy. Then she had to go on bed rest in the hospital for 3 months. I was working 60 miles north of the hospital where she was staying. While taking care of the dogs at home, I went to the hospital several times a week to keep her company... and bring sheets since she was allergic to hospital sheets. At the same time, I was interviewing and switching jobs.

My kids were born premature and spent a month in the hospital. Soon afterwards, we took my daughter in for a cold. She lost all of her vitals and was went limp. She had to be had to be flown to the Children's hospital ICU. We were extremely lucky that she got to the hospital in time.

I have to pay for daycare for 2. We also had to pay for a night nurse when the kids were younger... just so my wife could sleep while I'm on the road. My wife has to handle 2 kids on her own, aside from her own job... while I'm on the road. We have no nearby relatives to help.

When I come home, my free time is spent taking care of kids or working on the house. There are no days off for us anymore.

We don't get a break. We just keep going because we have to.

Everyone likes to have their own pity party. We all think that we are alone in the world with our own troubles. There are always people that have it much worse.

We have money to blow on expensive cigars, wine, booze, etc.... but seem to be unhappy at times.

Only WE are responsible for our lives and situations. If you don't like your life, change your job, change your lifestyle, change your expectations, change your relationships with certain people...

Life is too short to be unhappy for the wrong reasons. Most of us don't HAVE TO live the lives we do... we CHOOSE to live the lives we do.

If you are too stressed or unhappy with your live, reassess and make the changes that are necessary.

These days, I'm happy to listen my music in the car by myself... take a long shower w/o interruptions... watch an entire TV program while kids are asleep... read and post on cigar boards....

That's how I unwind....
