big congrats to the brisbane roar. great win.

to be honest, i don't watch a lot of local soccer (or any soccer for that matter - even the glorious gunners) but have seen the last few games with the roar. this was an exciting game with west sydney going so close and then the extra time.

the most amazing stat i heard was that the roar have now won three of the last four grand finals but in all three, they have not scored a goal prior to the 84th minute. talk about comeback kings!

for those that don't follow at all (i think i have this right) -

2011 - the most amazing of all. 0-0 at full time. mariners score twice in extra time. with only four minutes left in extra time, surely all over. brisbane get a goal and then get the equaliser in the last second of the game. goes to penalties and the roar win.

2012 - they were one down until shortly before full time, levelled it up and then a controversial penalty in extra time to win.

2014 - one down till four minutes to go. berisha (again) scored the equaliser. then a goal to henrique in extra time to win.

a lot of other sporting teams could learn from this never-say-die attitude.

Watched this yesterday while I was cooking a magnificent Portuguese chicken on the BBQ.

Thoroughly entertaining. I am a rugby nut, Rugby league follower, AFL I passably watch, NFL tragic. Yet soccer /football in this country will overtake our core codes within two decades. My opinion.

afl you watch under extreme duress.

soccer will overtake rugby, the management of which makes lemmings look sane. when the GPS schools opened to other codes, as they should have, it means a once locked in collection of excellent players are now up for grabs. it is a circus run by clowns. the one gem they have is izzy, yet they seem determined to piss him off.

my uncle has permanent seats and my sister and i have 30 year seats. we are playing the crusaders this sunday - a game that only a few years ago would have filled the stadium. now, the family is ringing around to see who wants to go - looks like i'm it. they'll claim a good crowd because they always dodgy up the figures. i think it is on who has tickets/memberships etc, whether or not they attend. and we are allegedly the shining light of aussie rugby for management and crowds and support. we have no competition behind super xv, thanks to morons, and they are trying to shoehorn a concocted collection of teams into one. i would rather be found dancing naked to kylie in a crowded church drinking sauv blanc than go to that rubbish. so stupid. if it was a comp with qld uni up against the hated filth (brothers - for non-qlders) or the even more hated randwick then terrific, but combine uni and brothers - who cares?

league and afl will rule during our lives and probably for a long time thereafter. but soccer will continue to increase in popularity. the excitement of the game, the quality, the crowd support and good behaviour - all great advertisements for it.

Ken, I love your verve....no matter the subject.

Apparently I've been missing out by not going to the Souths Rugby Club at Annerley, my nephews play for St Laurie's so I'm going to start making the Saturday treck there to see what the fuss is. it's only a few minutes by foot, so a few rums will be had.

My other nephews are at Marist....I've heard it's not much chop though ;)

Fantastic demeanor. Heaps of verve.

I've never much explored rugby, but I have friends that follow it fervently. Must be worth the appeal (for those friends are respectable, hardworking students)!
