nem Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 These explosions seem to happen with some frequency: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/04/exploding-whales/361444/
Ken Gargett Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 probably happens with almost every dead whale. we had a dead humpback washed up in front of us at fraser island on the edge of the surf. down wind, the smell near killed you. interesting thing. low tide, tourists crawled over it. high tide, the sharks were all over it. 1
Philprop Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 We have several washed up on our shores here in Newfoundland. There is too much ice floating down from the north and the whales drowned. The ice is also causing problems with the fishery here as boats cannot go out as the ice is too thick. And due to the high ice volumes it looks like we'll be in for a very cold summer. When there is a lot of ice on the water the wind comes in over that ice and brings the frigid temps in with it. The only good about all this ice(and Ken you may not like to hear this so ignore) is that we get beautiful ice bergs and generally seals are plentiful for the sealers when there is a lot of ice.
