Even the smallest environment will stratify. Don't believe me? Take a data logger and seal it in a vacuum seal bag. Mush the bag around in your hand and watch, assuming that your instrument is real time, the rH will change. The heat of you hand will even change the rH…

If you are an accuracy bug, get a NIST certified hygrometer!

I have some older controls that are 6 and 8 rH off at 70dF. Sensors should be replaced about every two years. All thin film sensors have sensor 'creep.' You just cannot keep them forever and depend on them to be accurate.

If you have linked cigar condition and value to rH… consider replacing sensors and or hygrometers after two-three years! Better instruments will last longer, but none last forever!

…yes, I am a BUZZKILL!

I have my very first caliber 2 still, I don't have the heart to throw it away even though it's out generally around 8% lol. Poor little bugger tries hard so I figure hard work justifies his rent biggrin.png

…pretty funny! I too have some old items, CMT controllers with internal sensors that I just cannot throw in the trash!!!

The display is so feint , even with new batteries, that I have to tip it almost horizontal to read lol. It's the hygrometer equivalent of that old mangy dog with cataracts that sits outside the pub just happy to be in the Sunshine!
