I took a look at the Cuban customs laws and noticed that beyond 20ish cigars you need to have them in sealed boxes.

Does anyone know if this is actually enforced? I was planning on smoking a couple out of the boxes while I was sill in Cuba. If that is going to cause trouble leaving though, I will avoid it.

Experiences?

According to the current Canadian Foreign Affairs Departmental Bulletin on Cuba ( the best English source ) the Cuban government will allow a limit of 20 loose cigars ( meaning out of a box ) which can be exported without any form of proof as to where you obtained these cigars. In other words they won't bother verifying if these are real or street cigars. They will also allow up to 50 cigars without proof of purchase provided they are contained in legitimate factory boxes with the authentic seals .

That is my understanding as well. My question is do the seals need to be intact. ie. Can I open the boxes?

When it comes to custom rolls are you issued a receipt provided they are purchased from a LCDH or is 20 custom rolls the maximum you can take out regardless of where you purchase them?

The boxes do not need to be sealed if you have the official receipt from the shop for them. It's called a Factura de Venta. Be sure to ask for it at time if purchase. You will need your passport number to have it filled out properly.

I am on an iPhone at the moment but have posted a link in the past on this forum to the English language page of the Cuban Customs web page explaining the rules regarding cigars. It explains it as clearly as is possible.

Try a google search for Aduana Cuba Tabacos.

Edit.

Actually, here it is

http://www.aduana.co.cu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=54&Itemid=209〈=en

The page does state 'sealed' but you'll be fine if you have the full receipts. Make sure you ask for them in shop. They won't always be offered without promoting.
