Faire Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Hello guys, Having only a few months since I started smoking habanos, I'm still learning the different cigar brand profiles, the different notes on the same cigars, the different flavors when a cigar is too humid/dry/young or old, etc. So yesterday after a family lunch I got 2 cigars from my humidor: 1 R&J SC (Jul 2012) and 1 RASS (Nov 2012), which I shared with my father and my father in law. Tasting both, I quickly noted how much richer and more complex the RASS was compared to the R&J SC. The SC draw was very light/soft/easy, while the RASS was a bit tighter. In general terms, the SC was almost flavorless compared to the RASS. I'm also used to smoke Partagas Shorts, and they also taste better than the SC to me. I find the SC to be less strong than the Shorts. Is this light flavor a common feature in the R&J Short Churchills and the R&J brand in general ? Must I let them age ? Or I just didn't have luck with my R&J SC box ? Also, the RASS is one the cigars that I've enjoyed most so far. Which other cigars of similar profile (not identical) should I try then ? Thanks!
sw15825 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 You seem to answer a lot of the questions you have for yourself, which is best thing you can do. I love shorts and rass too they are regulars for me. I also find ryj light and don't care for flavor profile. However it is hard to tell another what they will like. I usualy graviate toward stronger brands, but not exclusively. May I suggest you try singles of a lot of things to see what you like across the board. Then you can invest in what You really like. One big mistake I made in past was buy popular brands and sizes that are still sitting in my humidoors.
SCgarman Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 RASS is by far my favorite. Try Bolivar Royal Coronas. Another fuller flavored robusto sized cigar. They are very good young and if you can sit on a box for 5 years they really become very smooth and refined.

jangoman88 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I did a great sampler that Rob put out a few months ago and it had the RASS and a few others in it, I smoked the RASS a few weeks ago and was very impressed by this cigar. Cant wait for any specials on it **hint prez***
JimC Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 RASS has become my favorite also. I'd also suggest Bolivar BF and PC... Both brilliant. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Lant63 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 The Short Churchill tastes like cedar cardboard. RASS tastes like caramel fruit cake and an Victoria Secret angels lips.
Orion21 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 RyJ SC's when good are great, but I have had a plenty of average ones. I do not have much experience with RASS, but it looks like I will need to change that fact. Looking at the posts I would go with RASS, since the current feedback seems to be excellent and there is no one hyping up the current RyJ SC's.

Phillys Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Rass is my go to robusto, can't go wrong with them, TyJ, not my favorite, although I had a spectacular one a few months back
