Nedule Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 So this past Thursday, I was getting ready to head out of town for the weekend. Went into my humidor, pulled out a few sticks for the travel humidor & amongst the rush to get out the door & 2 small children jabbering in my ear nonstop, I forgot to close my humidor. I came back 3 days later, walked into my bedroom & there it was, wide open. Now in some places of the world, this may not be a problem, but winter time in Northern Canada, that's really bad. Besides the furnace blasting dry hot air 24 - 7, the RH% in the house is about 30%. You can literally feel you skin dry out & crack in this weather. After checking the sticks, they were noticeably dryer but hopefully should be fine. What a shock to see that thing open.
Puros Y Vino Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Put them to sleep for a long time. Don't overcompensate on the RH. You're going to have to build it up slowly.
mash Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I wouldn't be too fussed about 3 days. They'll be fine. Consider it dry boxing.
polarbear Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I wouldn't be too fussed about 3 days. They'll be fine. Consider it dry boxing. Exactly what i was going to say
jdo2110 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 ^^^^^ agreed. I done the same thing in the dry heat of Phoenix, and nothing drastic and if it. They just need a few days of "spa" treatment : )
srsMichael Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 3 days isnt a big deal. Think of the time these cigars spend in transit sometimes for 3-4 weeks.
kiwicrusaders Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Disagree completely .... Think you will need to get rid of all if them. I'm sure forum members will be more than happy to help you dispose of the offending sticks..., do you need my address :-)
Bunner Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've done that before... Left the top tray out and everything.... Everything was fine after a couple of days it seemed. This was during the summer when it was more humid though.
Nedule Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 thanks guys, I'm sure they'll be fine too, just a real bone head mistake. It's amazing how small children can telapathically draing you all of your brain power.
nick17 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I also have to go with let them sit for a while and build the humidity back up my general rule of thumb when i get cigars shipped is time and a half so in this case 5 days and then see how they are doing
