I have a love / hate relationship with Chianti......

I love sangiovese, but don't always love it's Chianti expression, too often finding it dull / flaccid, relying on perception / reputation. For me, usually, you have to pay to play......

A few favorites, which I find typically show incredible purity:

Felsina Rancia

le Boncie Le Trame

Montevertine ( The Le Pergole Torte is a "bucket list" wine for me)

I found one I like from the Tiamo Winery. come to find out it is an organic wine and it's very nicely priced. I like it.

D, I've not seen it, but will give it a try if I do. Purely for conversation, a quick look shows that it's blended with a bit of cab sauv. While legal under doc(g) regs, I've never been a fan (though some of the top Super Tuscans are cab blends or cab based). I prefer 100% sangiovese, or if not, "native" varietals such as canaiolo or colorino.

If you enjoy the blend, consider these if you see them around: Umberto Cesari Moma, Tolaini Valdisanti. They are progrssively more expensive, but of good quality (the moma is actually from Emilia Romagna - I'm a fan of their Sangiovese Riserva).

Cheers!

I agree with you.....I think it's $12 USD in my neck of the woods, for that price, and for as decent as it tastes, I don't mind putting up with a blend. However, like you, I prefer the 100% Sang.
