Hohenthal Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Good evening/morning, Ladys and Gents, just came back in from my usual after dinner cigar, today, a sancho Panza Non Plus. If I may say, Non Plus (young examples) have never so far made as much of an impression on me as have the Molinos or aged Belicosos - this one however, an example from late 2007, was a remarquable experience. Tons of exotic spices such as star anise and sechuan pepper (without the side effects like a numb tongue), a wonderful toastiness and the famous Sancho Panza saltiness which, to me, is more of a mineral quality rather than plain NaCl. Medium body, rather engaging on the nose more than on the palate. All in all, a hugely enjoyable cigar, much underrated I think. What are your thoughts? Cheers, Alex
Blakes Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I've only ever had one of these and it blew me away, the flavours were brilliant. You never hear much about them so I don't know if this was an exception but I loved it. I did get it from our wonderful host here but since it was a single I have no clue what age it was, I did ask Di to see if Rob could pick out a box a couple of months ago when he was in the warehouse but he said the quality sucked that month and I've forgot about them since, deffo need to get back on the case of hunting a box down.
CaptainQuintero Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Love the molinos and so found the non p and Belicosos lacking in all departments comparatively, but I've had the odd cracking example
frenchkiwi Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Thanks for reviewing it. I must admit i don't think i've ever had a Sancho Panza under 5 years old, simply because they don't seem to sell that well and the stock sits around. Had a cracking box of bachilleres once... Do any of them smoke well young (ie in the first year or so)?
Pilgrims Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 SPNP got me into this whole thing so I have an attachment to them...like the easy mellow nature of them, never a blockbuster...thanks for the review
Hohenthal Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 ...i don't think i've ever had a Sancho Panza under 5 years old, ... Do any of them smoke well young (ie in the first year or so)? My experience so far was that by some magic they develop their flavour and aroma after 5+ years, young examples smoke well but are lacking quite something in comparison to aged ones.
dvickery Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 alex have purchased "non plus" exactly once ... 3 boxes from '98 ... purchased about '05 ... smoked 2 boxes(one still stashed away) . a good smoke ... I would buy again ... if I ever saw any . yet not quite the religious experience you had . derrek
Hohenthal Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 Hi Derrek, I would not go as far as "religious" but it was very enjoyable... My current PC favourites would be Upmann and Gonzalez to be honest, but for a change every now and then, Sancho Panza - for its uniqueness - is somerthing I'd certainly recommend. Cheers, Alex
AlohaStyle Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I don't smoke much San Pancho, but just had a young (2012) Non Plus today and thought it was great. It had a nice oily wrapper on the darker side so I was looking forward to seeing how it would go. Bet some aging would've made it a great cigar.
