Hey all,

I just bought a 4-string bass! Been wanting to learn for a long time. Always been more in tune with the bass line than the lead guitar...so now's my chance. I just have to learn how to play it.

So, I'm wondering if you all have experience with the instrument, learning to play strings, etc.

Cheers,

Wilkey

Enjoy bro! What bass did you pick up?

I used to play it for a short time for my church a few years ago and haven't touched it for the last couple years due to work. It was fun but I wish I had learned it a little more like popping and snapping. I have an acoustic bass too which is nice but collecting dust...

I'm a huge fan of the bass guitar ! I always wanted to play but never had the patience to get it done . I do own a 1968 Gibson EB3 that I picked up around 1978 or 79 . It was owned by a local guy that used to play in a high school band back in the day . He traded it in and I snatched it up . It's in great shape because its hasn't been used since I bought it ! Had a lot of offers but I never wanted to part with it . The Fender Jazz is a great bass also .

There's a long list of great bass players out there . Marcus Miller is #1 in my book !post-7208-0-02316400-1379385392_thumb.jp

Thanks ! I think I paid 175 for it in the late 70's . Still in original case . I think it's considered vintage since its a 1968 model .

You're playing for The Lord ? That's tight !! Good for you !!

I play bass. Relatively self taught. I own a Alvarez 6 string electric in a sweet bright orange sunburst along with my first one, a Vantage 4 string. Haven't played in over a year since my son was born. Still get that itch to pick it up and get a band going, but realistically no time in the near future. I'll post up a pic a bit later when I get a chance.

A suggestion for you that I used, go to your local music store and pick up a few scale books and read and practice. Watch a few videos on how to play and read tabs and then start trying out your favorite tunes. You'll learn a lot by just learning other some songs and you'll pick up where the notes are and how they tie together and then you'll be able to start putting your own riffs together.

Congrats on the bass, brother! Hope you enjoy it!

Yup. Love my basses! I never picked up the electric guitar (couldn't be arsed to learn 'proper' chords!) But love how I have progressed as a player. Love the guys in my band... drummer has left which is annoying but the perks of an original bands is trying to find dedicated musicians...

Here is me playing my Ibanez BTB 550, discontinued bass but sounds amazing!

And here is me playing my Spector 5 Legend with La Bella flats... another beautiful sounding creature...

I don't have any pics of my cab (I should really, cause it is a great setup) sticking true to UK manufacturers I got an Ashdown 410T cab with the Mag300 Evo II head. Looking for a lightweight 115 or 210 to boost the range lol.

After all that I have various pedals but manage to have money left over for cigars LOL!

Oh yes, I'm old & so are my basses. My main guitar is a mid 70s Rickenbacker 4001, with a mid 60s Gibson Grabber as backup. These days I only play in public on my college's alumni weekend, but host jams at my house twice weekly As a non singing bassist, I'm at the mercy of the singing guitarists. Currently playing a lot of Allman Bothers, Dead, electric Neil Young & new for me, David Bowie. .

More cowbell!

Hey, I think my dad played with that bassist, Dennis. My dad also had that same Gibson EB3. Brings back memories as a toddler, falling asleep in front of the kick drum while they rehearsed.
