Ken Gargett
every year (well, the last few anyway), i organise a group of wine mates - some local, some interstate and some winemakers - for a wine tasting, then lunch. we always do it at ortiga - one of brizzy's absolute finest. everyone contributes a wine or two from their cellar and then a wine for lunch. we learnt after the first one that it was not necessary, or wise, for everyone to bring magnums to lunch. it all started because i had a 1948 taylors VP that needed drinking and mentioned it to a couple of mates. they had a vintage or two, i had a few more and next thing we had people calling up for a spot. we ended up with taylors VP's back to 1924. amazing day. last year was musigny. this year, tomorrow, is rhones. there will be 16 of us (including a mate who is now the global ambassador for guigal, some wine makers and other wine writers and mates). i thought i'd put up the list in case of any other rhone lovers out there. there are a couple of surprise wines which i won't name, as one or two of the troops are members here. 1. Blanc Bracket Rayas Blanc 1973 – Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc 'de l'Oree' 1999 – Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc 'de l'Oree' 2003 – Chapoutier le Meal Blanc 2004 – Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2006 – 2. greenpimp
What a list! I'll be at your doorstep tomorrow, somehow. Rhone wines, white and red, are probably my favorite of all. Please post your impressions and favorite if you get the time Ken. Very jealous.
in0gravity
I am big fan of Chateau La Nerthe. Both red and white are really good. Also pretty good is Chateau de la Gardine and Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe.

stargazer14
I am a lover of Rhone (and Languedoc), wish I could be part of this, keep us posted Ken.
winelover
Enjoy the tasting Ken. I am utterly envious. So many stunners on that list and surely some of the surprises have to come from your mate who represents Guigal (but then he has already supplied the 86 la la). I am really getting into my rhones and have started my own rhone cellar stored professionally and currently have cases of Vincent Paris Le Geynale Cornas 09 and Chapoutier Cote Rotie La Mordoree 05. Enjoy the hermitage. GH

GH actually the 86 is coming from a mate from the barossa. we nearly missed it. several of the guys sent their wine in by australia post and bizarrely, only the bottle that was addressed incorrectly arrived. fortunate;y we managed to track down the rest. headstand
I'm curious about how the 2003 CDP fared in the tasting. I'm currently making my way through my '03 collection given that it was a softer and less structured vintage than the norm.
