kuma Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Because I'm some what of a novice (3 years) smoking CC's I often wonder about the taste of a cigar in relation to the level of moisture of the cigar. In other words do cigars change taste a little, more than a little (mid-point) or a whole lot according to the moisture/dryness of that cigar. I only ask because sometimes when I receive smokes shipped to me from different parts of the world they can at times taste outstanding right out of the box. Then I'll put them in my humi for a while and when I go to smoke it the cigar tastes like a totally different smoke. Anyway if anyone has a thought about these matters please post it.
CaptainQuintero Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 You mean does the evolution of flavours become with more/less moisture present within the cigar? The final third of a cigar is always more dark, string and earthy for me, and an over humidified cigar is like that from the start for me also, I'm not sure if the final third is more wet because of it simply being in your mouth ir if there are other major factors. It might be why some people have pipes which they place a cigar into, so they do not get that dark final third as their mouths are not in contact with the cigar?
Bolismoker Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Moisture content will absolutely alter the taste of cigars. Almost without exception cigars that are over humidified taste "off"
Geo17pip Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Strider I totally agree with you about smoking cigars right out of the box straight from the vendor that are amazing and then a month later they're not as good. I wonder why? Does anyone know? Ive also noticed that while on vacation say in DR I bring my own smokes there and its much more humid and warm there and the cigars taste better than at home. Maybe its the mood and atmosphere? Lol
jjdolphin Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 There is something to the heat and moisture content. I just received a box and when I opened it for the first time the smell was just amazing. Every time I get a new box, right out of the delivery truck, the cigars smell fantastic. Never misses. Then I place it in the humidor and within several days that smell disappears. I have yet to taste the cigar right out of the box because I am conditioned, like most, to put the cigars in the humidor to acclimate for a while before smoking. I will try it on my next purchase. I forget who, but someone in another post mentioned leaving their cigar in a tubo in the sweltering heat of a car for several hours and getting the same affect. I might give that a shot and see how it goes.
