jazzmonkey Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Hi, I want to try to make my own beef jerky. I don't have any equipment other than an oven. I saw a few ways where you can hang the pieces of meat on skewers in the oven and leave the door slightly open. But I'd like to know from people who made their own, possibly using that method, what were the results. So if you have recipies you'd like to share, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Man, I've made jerky every method you can imagine with just about every meat you can imagine: Smoker, grill, oven, dehydrators, the sun, ect. But I'll tell you this, one of the most awesome methods and strangest methods is one of my favorites. It involves a/c filters and a box fan. Search for Alton Brown, Good Eats, Beef Jerky, Urban Preservation. You will find an informative and instructional video on what to do. It's awesome!!! I actually prefer it over a smoker now.
Overproof Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Keen to see how it turns out for you. Good jerky is bloody expensive here.
LGC Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I need to start doing this, as jerky is a staple for me while fishing.
jazzmonkey Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 I need to start doing this, as jerky is a staple for me while fishing. It's expensive here also. And it's such a nice low carb option. Just need to find a few good recipes to try.
Skyfall Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 look up the videos and try the method I mentioned earlier. Here is the recipe. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/beef-jerky-recipe/index.html
