KJND Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I've only had the single barrel version of this rum which I though was pretty good. Local store is closing out the light and amber versions for a good price and wondering if they are worth picking up?
Colt45 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I've had the amber a number of times and like it - I think it's a great value as well.
KJND Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Thanks Colt, is it drinkable on the rocks or would you consider it a mixer? Either way looks like I'll pick some up and give them a try.
ptrthgr8 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I love the stuff. Pretty much my go to mixing rum now. I usually pick up a bottle of the Aged and a bottle of the Black Strap and mix them 50/50 or so with some Coke and lime for my usual drink. It's great any time of the year, but I prefer it while out on the patio in the spring time smoking a nice CC. Man, I wish spring would hurry up and get to North Dakota. (Just got 10" of snow yesterday. Bah.) Cheers, Greg Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2

Personally, I think you could drink it with a bit of ice if you like, but it's a nice mixer. Greg mentioned the Blackstrap, which I like as well - for me it's like drinking buttery molasses. I haven't tried mixing the two together, but it sounds like a great thing to try. And I will
KJND Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 (Just got 10" of snow yesterday. Bah.) Cheers, Greg Sorry to say but glad it stayed a bit north... Don't know that I saw the black strap but will look into that one as well.
hdryder Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 If you like spiced rum they make some very nice spiced rum. I havent seen any bottles of it yet but I recently grabbed a couple of bottles of blackstrap and they had the 1oz bottles of spiced attached to the top and I really enjoyed it.
darkleeroy Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I'd take Zacapa over Cruzan Single Barrel any day. I usually mix with Sailor Jerry, cause well, it's affordable and I don't feel bad mixing it.

So you are in way different price categories. The cru an Single Barrel is a great change of pace rum as it is extremely woody depending on the batch and can vary a lot batch to batch.
