Why not throw another EL into the mix?

Montecristo 520 Edición Limitada 2012. Box code unknown. Vitola size: 6x55.

Cold observations: Gorgeous dark wrapper, flawless construction. Creamy, smooth aroma wrapper, gentle spices and citrus sweetness at the foot. Draw is slightly loose but bearable, very mild vegetal flavours on the cold draw.

First third: Lighter-bodied than I was anticipating at first, but it finds its way up to the fuller side of medium fairly quickly. Certainly moving towards the sweet/creamy end of the spectrum, with syrupy honey, salted caramel and shortbread. There are brown leater and allspice notes that I usually associate with Montecristo, but they're definitely taking a backseat to the sweetness here. (Also, 55 ring gauge is too damn high).

Second third: Boy, this thing is just not letting up with that candied sweetness. It has developed with the addition of toffee and some espresso bitterness, with the honey and caramel still lathered on a bed of dry oak.

Final third: Some of the standard back-end toasty wood spice, to be sure, but even now the echoes of the sweetness are still interwoven throughout the flavour profile. Still very balanced and smooth.

I've never been more surprised by a cigar. It reminds you enough during the smoke that it IS a Montecristo, but gee, there are times when it goes way out into left field. I love surprises.

Nice review!

ASH - how long did it take to smoke?

I don't really keep track of time very well... hour and a half or so?
