ayedfy Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Cohíba 1966 Edición Limitada 2011. Box code unknown. Vitola size: 6.5x52, paid $57/single. Cold observations: Wrapper a little flakey, but good construction otherwise. Cold aroma is lightly creamy on the wrapper, and vegetal - even a little spicy - at the foot. Draw is excellent, slightly on the tight side. Cold draw reveals notes of chili, capsicum, vanilla beans, and a touch of sea salt. First third: Full bodied opening singing cream, cream, cream. Delicious sweetness that is both rich and subtle. What's most curious is how uniquely this takes on some of the traditional flavours. There's wood, but instead of cedar, it's old hickory and antique furniture. There's citrus, but less lemon and lime and more mandarine and grapefruit. There's also hay and some lighter core fruits in there. Remarkably balanced for all this complexity. Second third: Body is resiliently keeping pace. Somewhat less sweet, but still maintaining a smooth, creamy texture. More salty, and some of those quality vintage wood notes moving forward in the absence of sweet fruits. The smoke pouring out of this thing is almost ethereal - thick, whispy, brilliantly white. Final third: Mellowing out with a slight drop in body, but still keeping on the healthy side of medium. Dark cocoa and more of that distinct woodiness. Very subtle sweet citrus reappearing, and of course, the cream is still lathered all through this. Very expensive, even by EL standards, but if you have the cash to spend and like big cigars, this is well worth checking out. A truly excellent cigar, and I'm glad I got the chance to try one. 94/100
NMJoe Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Enjoyed your review. I really want to try one, but they are just out-of-this-world expensive, so I always have the calculation going on (I could buy BOXES of ...) It will happen, just don't tell my wife.
BMack Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Very nice review! It sounds delicious, too bad the cigar is a bit out of my range, haha.
OrtoSmuki Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Can't wait to try this beatuy...must be V E R Y special occasion (considering the price)
Carpenter69 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 So glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Just got a box 3 weeks ago. I'm gonna let them rest another couple months.
Profmd Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Great review. Bought a box from Rob awhile back and have had a few. Not sure I would go to quite a 94, but certainly a great cigar. Yes scary price especially looking at the price now!! Seems to keep going up.
petey Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 $57? I'd like to try one and will probably end up being a classic and even more expensive as an aged stick.
Laxman Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Great review but the price seems to have skyrocketed. Had a shot at 500 usd a month ago for a box now I have not seen any and the few I have are like 700!
