El Presidente Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 We are arriving into New York Friday evening 17th of February. Staying at the Waldorf Astoria we will be shagged Friday evening and will merely head out for a half dozen beers and a cigar....just need the name and addresses of a few likely joints close by. Saturday or Sunday (or both) I would love to have a late lunch which rolls through until dinner and catch up with as many FOH New Yorkers and their mates as possible. Once we have the numbers we can book a location. Again Suggestions for a location and your preference of the day for the loooong lunch would be great. We leave Monday for Havana. Now outside of the lunch don't feel excluded as it is not the Aussie way. You are free to join in whatever we do if you have the time, inclintion and stamina. A list of best cigar friendly restaurants, bars etc would be a great help. I am looking forward to it :-D

I now feel like the minion that I really am. :crying:
Mel Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 How much is a room at that place? How many USD would it take to keep pace with yopu for the day and a half? Dom they have a Days Inn nearby?;-)

I am purposely not naming the restaurant on a public forum as the sale of these items is still very frowned upon and fined here on this side of the pond. However, we'll come up with a list of the cigar friendly places for you - even though NYC is a NO SMOKING area...LOL
Loki Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I'm looking forward to this event also. Everyone needs to be a "High Roller" every now and again. I'd be happy to let Rob buy me a pint or two. LOL I'm looking forward to meeting Rob and his mates and the other FOH members in attendance. Keep us updated.
El Presidente Posted December 8, 2005 Author Posted December 8, 2005 Actually the Waldorf came in at about $230 USD per night on our package which is pretty good for NY. Always cheaper booking hotels from abroad :-) Unfortunately I have had to book Ken into the YMCA as our budget wouldn't allow two Waldorf bookings.

El Presidente Posted December 8, 2005 Author Posted December 8, 2005 Ken's mum always asks me to keep a close eye on him when we travel but shared rooms are out of the question. I have seen how he lives and the last time I visisted I thought he had been robbed. Ken....has your mum come back yet from the holy tour you sent her on: Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Baghdad? She only really wanted a beach holiday.
smokeswirl Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I will most likely greet you in NYC. Keep me abreast of your itinerary. I was born and raised in Queens and would be great to meet you. My weekends are packed but Sunday afternoon til eve will be posible.
Ken Gargett Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 she last rang from afghanistan and said she was looking forward to the iraq by night section of the tour. i've told her not to miss the evening 'son et luminere' show. » » Ken....has your mum come back yet from the holy tour you sent her on: » Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Baghdad? » » She only really wanted a beach holiday.
rd123456789 Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I'm going to try and make this... will keep a watch out.
puros71 Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Rob, man you need to come out to the West Coast California. You have the San Francisco Bay area, L.A., and San Diego.
ilikecigars Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 230 a night is very reasonable in the city.......i know the resturaunt docrks speaks of...you cant go wrong with the food or hospitality at xyz123 !! roman keep me informed if you would, as to the arangements for this herf.
Jimmy2 Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Can't wait Prez and friends this is a place in Queens it about 20 min by cab check it out.Its very layed back and Ken will have a nice couch to sleep on when he gets cooked. Its 2 floors and also there plenty of restaurants on the same block. The prices are GREAT with the beer and wine and sticks. http://www.havanadreamssmokelounge.com/index.html Also here is an article on Havana Dreams: http://www.queenstribune.com/news/1128621771.html We can also rent this place for the occasion...
Jimmy2 Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I tink these places are still around alot of places were shut down here in NYC. Florio's Grill & Cigar Bar 192 Grand Street (Mulberry St.) 226-7610 Upon entering this Little Italy haunt, you are met with full glass enclosed display cases stacked with cigars like a retail shop and a couple of black leather chairs to lounge. There is a large dining area in the back, which is smoke free. If you don't mind sitting at the bar, you can drink from top shelf liquor, order from a full menu of Italian food and smoke a cigar all without moving from your stool -- a rarity in New York now. The Carnegie Club 156 West 56th Street (between 6th & 7th Ave.) 957-9676 A great little getaway that's big inside but easy to miss from the street. The cavernous space serves high-end beverages and a menu of light appetizers. A jazz band plays in the corner amidst the stylishly dressed patrons. The large dark wood wrap-around bar is lit with candles and mini-shade lamps. There is a small cigar menu of about ten cigars but feel free to bring your own. You can distinguish the clandestine spot by the hologram of a Martini floating over the front arched doorway.

Yes yes, El prez, I concur with Docrks and ilikecigars. That restaurant has a great menu. Looking forward to meeting you and your party.
skindiver Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 They haven't told you about the sunny tropical weather in NY in February, I guess! I'll be going to Havana for new Years Eve and there ten days to escape the cold. Sure hope Ken Gargett doesn't come storming into the VIP room at R&J again while I'm there! Just kidding
El Presidente Posted December 10, 2005 Author Posted December 10, 2005 Looks like we have 4-5 locations which is just about right. Now you know the dates. I just need to know whether a Saturday or Sunday lunch is better for members. I am talking about the major lunch where we can all try and catch up at the one time.

skyletto Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 There are a few of us customers who occasionally hang out together for a smoke--we should all get together at Hudson or Lexingtion Bar and Books.
genevapics Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Need to get an idea of how many people will be attending. Depending on the day, I may make the trip up from Delaware. About a 2hr drive for me. Little Italy/SoHo is a great area to hang out. Keep us informed as far as the details.
