Reevzy Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 G'day, I'm Jack from Endeavour Hills in Melbourne. I've taken a recent interest in cigars and when I say recent, I mean Christmas eve and new years eve. I've smoked cigars a handfull of times in the past but had no idea what they were or wether they were of any decent quality. I still don't but on Christmas eve I bought some Montecristo No.4's to go with a very nice bottle of Cognac and on new years eve I had myself a Cohiba Siglo No.1 which I thoroughly enjoyed I hardly noticed the fireworks going off. I've got my 30th coming up a couple of weeks and I'm up for suggestions as to what I might splurge out on. I don't mind looking in the price range of 60, 80 or $100. Now I know some of you might say "A good cigar would be wasted on you, newbie!". Some of those Youtube commenting aficionados have no time for a newbie untill you've become an aficionado. I'm gonna smoke a nice cigar at some stage, no point in waiting for a guy in Texas to decide if I'm worth it or not. So that's me, saying g'day and suggest away.

maverickdrinker Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 welcome aboard. Part of the joy of being a newbie is the opportunity to try new things. I would suggest getting a sampler pack to see what you like. In terms of a birthday cigar, I would be remiss not to recommend something Cohiba, like a lancero, SIg VI or a BHK 54. good luck
CanuckSARTech Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Cheers and welcome. Go for an RA Extra or a QdO Imperiales.
NJP Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 G'day Jack and welcome. Spending big coin on a single cigar won't always hit the spot. Like maverickdrinker has said get a sample pack or follow the flow of Cohiba, you enjoyed the marca once before. I spent 4yrs only smoking the Siglo IV when I first started.
Nino Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 G'day Jack, welcome to FoH ! Enjoy your birthday cigar, whichever it is, and follow your taste. As has been mentioned, a sampler pack of the different Siglo line cigars might be a good start. Then get the best for your b'day and keep searching further .... :-)
Squarehead Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Welcome to the FOH forum Jack and happy smokes.
cottierm Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Welcome to FOH Jack! It is great to be a beginner, so many bad and good choices to make, so many discoveries along the way! Follow your own taste and find your own way through the Habanos catalogue as there are cigars for anyone of us. Best, Michel
Reevzy Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Well, thanks everyone for the welcome and suggestions. Trevor, consider the rules read I've already gone and bought a Monte 2 GR and a Cohiba 66. I do believe that one of those two will be the star of the night. And I'm looking into a small humidor to get a wee collection going. These are great days we're living.
Fuzz AI Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Welcome Reevzy. As you're a recent convert, don't bother with a humidor. IMHO get yourself a tupperware with a good seal instead, and with the money saved, buy many different cigars to try. Once you know what you like, then you can start investing it nice looking humidors, if it still tickles your fancy.
