My wife and I will be there for a week celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and it's our first visit. Is there an LCDH or another reliable spot to feed my habit while we are in Cabo?

Also, for anyone who has visited or lives in the area, are there any other activities, restaurants, watering holes, etc., we should explore?

Cheers!

Joe,

No LCDH that I know of. However, I can recommend J&J Habanos.

They have a good selection of CC and make a great Mojito. It's a great place to drink & smoke a couple hours away.

They also have a large selection of tequillas that you can purchase by the shot/glass or bottle.

You can find them at Madero S/N E/ Blvd. Marina y Guerrero, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

A couple of of other recommendations...

The Office is a fun place to eat on the beach that is lively and the food is good.

Edith's is fine dining at it's best in Cabo.

If you are looking for some crazy night life Cabo style go to to Squid Roe after 11 pm on Friday or Saturday night.

It's loud and loose at Squid Roe!

Finally, if you are wanting to charter a boat to go fishing Minerva's is the best IMHO.

You can find addresses and more details for all the above on the web.

Have a great trip!

There is an LCDH in Cabo, J&J Habanos. Great selection (including reservas) and tasty mojitos. Prices are a bit high thanks to the tabacco taxes in Mexico, but all in all it is a great place. I was just there over Labor Day and will be back before Christmas and for Spring Break in March, Cabo is one of my favorite places. Have fun down there!

You will not find a restaurant with better views then Sunset De Mona Lisa. Food is great as well. They have both a regular restaurant downstairs and then an amazing pizza spot upstairs. A MUST DO!!!! You will not be disappointed or I will send you some cigars for your trouble.

Yup, Hit J&J for a smoke and Mojito and then down to the office for a Ribeye!

Here is a view from the upstairs pizza place looking down at the regular restaurant. Must do during sunset!

J&J...Prices are out of control. I think it was $85 for an Edmundo Dantes. Nice selection but not worth buying if you can bring your own.

$85????

Zowie!

What if I am coming from the US? Any trouble getting Cubans into Mexico?

Nope. Your allowed 25 sticks per person free of customs. Sometimes I get away with more than that but rarely as they X-ray your bag before customs. Doesn't matter the origin.

I have been to Cabo too many times to count and J&J is the place to buy real cigars and it is around the corner from Cabo Wabo for reference. The Edmundo Dantes was in the $60.00 range when I was there Memorial Day so it looks like it has gone up but Mexico is no different than many other tourist spots/countries I believe the cigar tax is 100%. The Cohiba's seem to have an extra markup as well but all other cigars just seemed normally expensive.

If you are looking for a good place to watch a game and grab a smoke and a drink the bar Usual Suspects in town (across from the Puerto Paradiso mall) is pretty cigar friendly. The owner Tomas is a cigar lover as well so he can appreciate the need for a drink and a good cigar. Tell him Joe sent you as he knows me well now as I have smoked up a storm in his place over the last few trips.

KB24 is right Sunset De Mona Lisa has the best view and the food was good as well. Another place with a great view is El Farralon (spelling?) on the Pacific Side. They also had outside fire pits there when I went that looked like an awesome place to grab a drink and a smoke from. They were pretty empty when I was there so I am not sure if they were open to resort guests or not.

If you have any questions feel free to send me a note.

I thought I'd give this a bump as I leave for Cabo on 7/18. Seems JJ is the only place to get CCs, and wanted to make sure that didn't change. Thanks for any input.

I can tell you that my wife and I did stop in there three times, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Mexico's tax on imported tobacco is exorbitant, and is reflected in the retail price of authentic CCs at J&J's, along with, I'm guessing here, a decent margin for the shop. I paid triple the going price for a single Monte 520, as well as a BBF. And, if my memory serves me here, I purchased a total of five sticks, smoking three there (one on each visit) and two back at the resort to celebrate the New Year. The cost of those five was equivalent to a mid-level box of CCs. I was on vacation, and I didn't really care since I was having a grand time!!

The place is fairly small, selection is middle of the road, but the people and service were superb, and their mojitos were simply out-of-this-world good! They are listed on LCDH as an official franchise, if that makes you feel any better. The stock was mostly in good condition. They have a website with lots of photos, so check them out there before you go.

Of note, like all Mexican and Caribbean vacation spots I've visited over the years, Cabo may have the highest concentration of "authentic" glass-covered Cohiba, Monte, etc., packs I've experienced, and they were "almost free". lmao.gif

Have a great time!!!!
