red_shirt Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I discovered this site last week and was fascinated by it. Always been fascinated by cigars but have never smoked anything of a premium nature. Wouldn't mind getting in to that sort of thing though but was wondering where to start etc.
habanohal Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Let me be the 1st to say.... WELCOME!!! ;-) Alot of vast knowledge here, and a great bunch of guys/girl (Lisa) here.
hazleem Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Welcome to FOH! Enjoy the ride.... this forum is becoming as bad an addiction for me as those cigars... -Haz-
Mel Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Oh great fresh meat! Welcome and have a good time. May as well smoke the best, call Rob and he'll fix you right up.
DocRKS Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 » » Wouldn't mind getting in to that sort of thing though but was wondering » where to start etc. Seems like you've already started off on the right foot, i.e., you found your way over here.... Check out our hosts offerings in the top right here under the "International Shop" or 'Australian Shop' whichever applies to you. Read the descriptions - see if something catches your fancy - then drop Rob and/or the Lovely Lisa a note asking for their opinion on the stock they have in for the cigar you are interested in. Welcome aboard - you will really enjoy this experience.
Van55 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Welcome to FOH. If I were new to Cuban cigars generally, I would start with the marcas that Habanos s.a. blends to be on the mild side: Hoyo de Monterrey, Quai D'Orsay, Rafael Gonzalez and Fonseca and then move up from there. I particuarly recommend the Quai D'Orsay coronas, as they are extremely flavorsome cigars that won't make your eyes water or your knees shake.
shrink Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 "cigars that won't make your eyes water or your knees shake". That's no fun... I LIKE cigars that make my knees water and my eyes shake! Welcome aboard, mate!
CIGARHead Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 red shirt - nice to have you man! seems most people start w/ a petite corona. Partagas specifically. Cant go wrong there...and the price is right.
mgillett Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 I'll jump on the band wagon here and welcome you as well. You will find this a fantastic forum with plenty of knowledge around here to tap into. I consider myself a bit of a novice as well at this stage, so much so that I initiated the thread "What cigar for a beginner". Check that out (if you haven't already). Had some good advice from the voices of experience. Personally, I recommend the Monte 4 as a good place to start or the RyJ petit corona. Enjoy!
jay8354 Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Ahh, this takes me back... You have found your inner self. Welcome. ;-) I was like you when I stumbled onto Cigar Czar. Gave them a quick call and Ron called back with his suggestions. All spot on. Just give them a call / email and they will fix you right. Enjoy the fun to be had on the forum.
Tampa1257 Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Welcome to FOH, Since you have not smoked something of premium status, then let me recommend that you forget about all that Mild stuff, and find out quickly if you are ready to toss that "Red-Shirt" and put on a Varsity Jersey. Try a Partagas PSD4, something that has less than a year from the box code on it. You will be able to determine rapidly if you are ready for something with a little back bone or not. hehehe:lookaround:
Loki Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Welcome to FOH. I'd jump right on in with a sampler. I'm sure that Lisa or Rob would set you up with a bunch of singles to try out.;-)

Shooter Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 My suggestion would be to determine the SIZE of cigar you prefer and then get a hold of every possible Habano in that size to compare at your leisure. Undoubtedly, one or two are going to "rock your world" and you'll be well on your way to this crazy passion!
El Presidente Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Welcome mate. best advice I can give is "take your time" Start with singles, follow recommendations and be honest with your opinions so that people can recommend things that you actually like as opposed to things that you think you should like....but don't. Ignore Ken. :-D
