JY0 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 I wish I had a better 'before' picture but you can get the general idea. Stripped: I found a beautiful piece of cherry, we cut it, sanded it, and sprayed a few coats of flat lacquer, sanding between each coat. It really brought out the character in the wood. Mantle in place: More to come later...
canadianbeaver Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished project!
Loki Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Very Nice. I have 2 wood burning stove in the house, toasty. I am guessing that you are going to scratch coat and use some sort of cultured stone ??? over that mesh.
Cohiba Stevie Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Looks fantastic. Bravo. So by dry stack do you mean those pieces of rock have no mortar holding them in place? Sorry if its a daft question. Im really intrigued.
JY0 Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Thank you! We used mortar to hold the stones but not in between. Real dry stacking doesn't use any mortar at all. Tis is actually faux dry stack.
ajgagnon Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Nice work! Stands out nicely against the wood.
hermit Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Can't agree more this is awsome a great centre piece. Must have been hard fitting the rocks so evenly.
