I wish I had a better 'before' picture but you can get the general idea.

I found a beautiful piece of cherry, we cut it, sanded it, and sprayed a few coats of flat lacquer, sanding between each coat. It really brought out the character in the wood.

Very Nice. I have 2 wood burning stove in the house, toasty.

I am guessing that you are going to scratch coat and use some sort of cultured stone ??? over that mesh.

So by dry stack do you mean those pieces of rock have no mortar holding them in place?

Sorry if its a daft question. Im really intrigued.

We used mortar to hold the stones but not in between. Real dry stacking doesn't use any mortar at all. Tis is actually faux dry stack.
