UpInSmoak Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Last day of the month, folks! For the people in sales we all know how important this day can be. I was up early and out the door before 6am. I have a quota to hit, and its in striking distance. I'll be damned if i miss it by a few dollars. Grind, grind, grind - that's the name of the game. All the orders have been entered and submitted for processing. As I sit on my back patio with a PLPC in hand, all I can hope for is the numbers to go my way. I'll find out later tonight if my forecast was met. I have a sizable bonus teetering. To all the sales people out there, good luck on your month end, and enjoy tonight. As you know - tomorrow begins a clean slate and the grind begins anew. Who else is in sales, with bonuses on the line? Share your story if you'd like. Cheers everyone. Happy Halloween!
Diamondog Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Been there done that...nerve racking to say the least....good luck!
Cohiba Stevie Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I too am in sales and I'm very happy to get this month over me, its been a difficult one to say the least but I managed to secure myself a decent bonus, enough to get me a box of silo IIs and put some money away for christmas. I work for Vodafone and they're an ok bunch. Money can be good but a slow month can be crippling. Keeping my eye out for something else.
jkdooley Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Been sellin' one thing or another since 1976 :/ Tomorrow we go from hero back to zero! Good luck on your bonus!!
El Presidente Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 It is a tough gig. Hats off to all of you who are in the Sales trade.
canadianbeaver Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 When I was an account director at a graphic design firm in the 1990's, my boss and mentor used to say, "Lisa, sale is sales. The rest is romance." I have never forgotten these words no matter how flakey and creative I am.
BrotherBear Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 No bonus on the line... just my job! Fortunately made my Annual target in September. Octbober has been all about sandbagging for November. Happy New Year!
maverickdrinker Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Sales is tough for sure. That rush of fear and excitement that happens on the 1st of every month. Nothing like it.
Duxnutz Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 My chick is in sales and I get to see first hand the ups and downs of it. She does well but I'd be a nervous mess. Hats off to you guys!
Habanos2000 Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 ABC, Always Be Closing! best of luck to my fellow sales guys. Who says sandbagging is a bad thing?
CanuckSARTech Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I was in advertising and such in the late 90's when I first lived in Toronto. I think that anyone in sales has always had one boss or another along the line that tried to be WAY too super-positive and energetic ("J.U.I.C.E.!!!!"), and that mandated that "Glengarry Glen Ross" or "Boiler Room" was mandatory viewing. I don't miss it at all. But, kudos to those still in sales, and bashing away in today's post 9-11 world economy. Hats off to yous, and best wishes on a good month's end (and year end too, for that matter).
Guest rob Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 After an amazingly good 2011 / 2012..... my 2012 / 2013 has been extremely challenging. It can definitely be a tough gig. I can think of no other industry where the harder I work, the less I'll get paid. When it's all easy and sales are falling in my lap I get paid lots. But when it's hard and I work endless hours for nothing - I wonder wtf I'm doing this for.

LOL
Vcool Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Good on all of you in sales! I love Glengarry Glen Ross, thats about as close to sales as I get.
davidsan Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I work in recruitment and although we're not very strict on stats/sales - I like to hit personal goals. Had a few good wins this week and celebrated with a PL Robusto 07 and a JL from Dec 11 just now.
android Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 been chasing a number for 17 yrs...Quarterly quota for me & I'm pacing at 146% to the nut. Remember gents it's a marathon not a sprint.
Guest rob Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Remember gents it's a marathon not a sprint. Just trying to get off the starting line at the moment
